First, anyone know of a non-douchey (i.e., not Amazon or iTunes) site where I can buy CDs or MP3s without feeling like I'm contributing to the fucking over of the workers?

ETA: I have recs for cdbaby, abebooks, magnatune and emusic, thanks! :)

And second, would anyone happen to have this Stevie Wonder track lying around? All comments screened, ( Read more... )

A big box store. Or maybe the artists website? They usually have multiple links.

Well, big box stores have similar labour issues, but the stuff I'm looking for is usually old R&B, blues and jazz, so I don't usually see links on their sites - if they even have them. But thanks!

Magnatune.com

Their tagline is "We're Not Evil" and it predated the Goog.

They pay artists 50% of what they make, and their per-album (they sell only by the album) price is set by the buyer. Or, you can sign up for an all you can eat plan.

Magnatune is all indie artists, lots of world music, lots of classical.

Emusic.com

Used to be completely non-douchy and has now gone borderline douchy. Has a lot of major recording artists. You need their special application to D/L music, though.

At one point, I had three monthly subscriptions to eMusic, but I've since cancelled out all of them in favor of an annual subscription to Magnatune. My tastes aren't mainstream, anyway.

I use eMusic, but they don't always have the newest stuff. If you want a referral code, I can give you one.

cdbaby handles a lot of cool artists. Failing that, I like to order from the artist him/herself if possible.

I don't think they'll have classic R&B, they're indie music, but CDBaby.com is good.
