Two Holmeses and their Watsons.

Nah, no subtext there at all. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO OUR PRETTY LITTLE HEADS.

You know what you get when you scramble the letters for SUBTEXT? BUTTSEX. Just sayin'. Someone has an icon that illustrates the word jumble quite nicely.

The actors give us scenes with eye fucking. What else are we supposed to fill our pretty little heads with? Um. I'll be in my bunk.

Haha, I think I saw that somewhere. Love it. :)

And yeah, I'm fine with them being oblivious to the appeal of slash, but don't pretend there isn't eyefucking. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

I think some actors convey eyefucking without realizing how it can be read, while others know and are just fucking with us for grins. They might not get the appeal of slash, but they don't care or find it amusing, so they add a few subtle (or not-so-subtle) moments when they can.

One actor was known to be aware of slash and something was said at a con (and I'm not thrilled it was mentioned, because it puts the actor on the spot), and he finally just shrugged and said, "Whatever stirs your coffee." He didn't understand it, but he didn't care, and he'd put in both slashy and shippy moments at times, so he was cool about it.

Yeah, exactly. It's when we start feeling that we're entitled to positive reactions from the talent that we start to have problems.

Right? I mean, even if Sherlock is playing it up a bit, he is still playing it up SO THAT JOHN NEVER LEAVES HIM.

right???!! We are clearly crazy.
And I mean, additionally, it's not like there are ANY allusions to subtext in the source, whatsoever. Clearly delusional! We are clearly reading their intentions wrong there!

Sometimes, how close fandom and TPTB&actors get because of how the internet is evolving is kind of... unsettling? even though I am not even so active in it >.> (it's like somebody invading the fandom cave and gawking without knowing anything. yeah, idk how to put it.)

But then when I think about it, all the 'official' adaptions of (sherlock) source are actually fanworks, too. So I guess things are merging?

*long comment got long, sorry

It's definitely unsettling that they're in there, poking around. That whole bit with Amanda Abbington saying "they see everything" is at once hilarious and disturbing.

But then when I think about it, all the 'official' adaptions of (sherlock) source are actually fanworks, too. So I guess things are merging?

EXACTLY. It's the fact that they don't seem willing to acknowledge this that makes me want to poke them with soft cushions until they cry for mercy.

I am .. think-y today somuchlikeabook January 10 2012, 23:20:26 UTC
yes!

and especially because of AA's comment - they know it's there, react positive or negative - but most importantly, I think also make use of it - because I don't think it's only my slash goggles, sometimes. And yet, they keep it at hinting. *sigh Maybe the world is not ready yet, but we'll get there! :D

and I maintain the opinion that for a show there is often better fic, plot and character-wise. and not only because you can do more in writing. for that matter vids, even using the same source, can be more profound. really, quality fanworks and discussions spoil me and make me picky about shows *haha
[which makes me think, how many fandom-born tv-show writers are there? and how long will it take TPTB to see that there is such a big variety of quality in 'fandom' fanworks?]

[this makes me think of pinboard-guy's reaction post to the big migration - which was appreciative of what fandom can do]

I love that those are both moments when Sherlock knows he's fucked up, and is trying to figure out a way to make it up to John.
