The Parentals' visit 2009 - theatrical choices...

Jul 01, 2009 14:40

We have both sets of parentals coming over later this year for holiday, and want to take them out to the theatre (well, technically only Matt's as they're sticking around longer). But there's always so much going on in London that I can't decide what they should go see ( Read more... )

Most parentals like Abba, don't they? ;) Mine do!

Scarily they do! And our high school chaplain use to try and indoctrinate us into ABBA by playing all his records whenever we were invited over to his and his wife's (who was our Boarding School headmistress!) place. *blocks ears*

I'm thinking they probably would love 'Mamma Mia!'. 'Priscilla' was also a front-runner as it uses some of the songs of that era, and for it's Ockerness!

I kind of like Abba because my parents used to play it in the car on long road trips and it was either learn to like it or go crazy! I chose to learn to like it ;)

LOL, yes you really had no choice! I can probably sing the chorus verses of most of the ABBA songs.

Although a mate and I once got up to sing 'Money, Money Money' on karaoke and totally failed! We figured out that we never properly knew the rest of the lyrics! Soooo embarrassing.

I voted for Priscilla, because I want to see it LOL
I think the best choice is Mamma Mia?!

'Priscilla' ROCKS!!! You remember my post right?

You should come over to London one weekend and come see it!

'Mamma Mia' probably is the best choice for them. All that retro ABBA vibe!

One more reason to buy me an oyster card ;)

ABBA is fun! :)

I'm thinking it might be 'Mamma Mia!'! It seems to be the popular option so far in the comments.

The musical and non-musical 'Oliver' are both really good - tho' I've only seen the movie versions. Haven't seen it on stage but have been wanting to. Rowan Atkinson has been Fagin, which made us doubly want to go but tickets sold out pretty quick and he finishes soon. The comedian Omid Djalili takes over after Rowan. He's awesome so I still want to go see it although I can't imagine him as Fagin as well as I can picture Rowan!

I'm with the rest on "Mamma Mia!" The safest choice and guaranteed to please. Plus, you'll have fun, too, just singing along. :) I am almost tempted to suggest "Priscilla," just to ask you for their reaction to the subject matter. lol. But it might not be their cup of tea. Or it might! :)

As rowanceleste and I agreed, singing along with made-up words! lol!

"Priscilla" is awesome. I think they'd enjoy it, as both of them have a very irreverent sense of humour, and from kinda-rural Australia. Matt's uncle (mum's brother) is gay, tho' not of the camp nor cross-dressing type.

But I'm pretty sure they would love "Mamma Mia!" and it seems to be a crowd-pleaser.

Then "Priscilla" sounds like something that would be fun for everyone. And you can sit back and observe reactions. It's a theater in an of itself. lol.

You could do both shows, right? :)

This is true, we could do both shows! Really amp up their 'cultural' intake for the year! I don't think they get even the travelling shows put on near them.

I knda went for Priscilla cos I wanna see it too!! didn't know you'd seen it - I'm hoping tickets will come cheaper cos a few of us want to see it, but are poor LOL!

Mamma Mia would be fun too - I kinda want to see Oliver!

I quite like the look of Dreamboats and Petticoats too - that has some cool old music in it!

Is Ave Q a bit rude for them? I know my Mum wouldn't be impresed but I think Neil's Mum would find it hilarious!!

Awww, icon love! jodean!!!

I'll keep an eye out for cheaper deals to 'Priscilla' for you, as you definitely have to see it. It's brilliantly done.

I wanted to see Rowan's run during 'Oliver!' but he sold out really quick. So still want to go see it with Omid Djalili.

OMG, how funny is 'Ave Q'! I love the puppets! And the songs! You can't lose with "The internet is for porn" now can you?! LOL

I love Jo - Alona rocks my world!!!

That'd be cool! I look at the tkts site now and again and it never seems to be ok.... it's so bloody expensive!! Annoys me how they double the prices for London - the Take That Musical was £20ish in Manchester, in London it was more like £50!!

I loved Ave Q! It was like watching sesame street but with rude puppets LOL! I was like 'OMG they can't do that with puppets'!!! they should get Smile Time Angel and Spike on there for a guest appearance ;)

I wish they'd kept Jo on as a character on Spn. There was a story to be intertwined there! I remember reading some great Jo fanfic way back. Wish I'd tagged them!

PuppetAngel was the cutest thing ever!!!

like watching sesame street but with rude puppets
I know! I didn't know whether to cover my eyes and spare my memories of Sesame St. But it was too funny not to!
