A/N: This a repost from an old old fill on the_eagle_kink. But I’m reposting this for a very good reason... You’ll see.

One day, Marcus thought, one day he would have the balls to call up every favour his sister had ever demanded of him and ask for his own in exchange. And at the top of said monstrosity of requests would be payback for this.

Because he didn’t care how much Marina’s cheerleading squad needed new pom-poms or whatever, this was taking it way too far.

Marcus had lost count of the number of giggling twelve year-old girls he’d kissed on the cheek - and, um, surely there was a law against that somewhere. He was in high school, for God’s sake! Also, this freaking booth seemed to attract the most flaming homosexuals his school had to offer. They were, like, coming out of the woodwork in herds.

Herds of homosexuals. Christ.

And then there was everyone else in between. Those who were dared to get in line, the geeks who’d never been kissed and wanted to grab the captain of the football team before it was too late, the grannies, and the members of Marcus’ football team who just wanted to embarrass him further by literally shoving their writhing tongues down his throat. Which, gross, okay? Some of them did not brush.

Then there were some people who left Marcus completely and utterly mind-fucked.

He blinked mutely as Esca MacCunoval approached. Marcus’ sister’s best friend looked utterly calm and composed. His mouth was turned in its habitual faint frown, his eyes direct and sharp as ever.

Marcus had the displeasure of Esca’s practically living in the Aquila household, since he moved to the states back in eighth grade. Marcus and Esca’s parents had met at a parent’s night at their middle school and hit it off - and so figured that their sons would hit it off.

The first play-date set-up was a disaster. Esca was short, moody, and didn’t want to do any of the things Marcus did. Instead, he shimmied up one of the big oak trees in their back yard and stayed there for two hours.

In the end, it had been Marina who’d talked him down. She’s been fourteen to their twelve, and just floating between queen bee and the tomboy she’d grown up as. She’d climbed up there in her ugly fuchsia miniskirt and come down with Esca some ten minutes later.

Marcus never knew what Marina had said to Esca at the time, but from that point on it was them who were best friends. Esca was in their house day in and out. He and Marcus had ignored each other - at least, as best as they could. Still, the prospect of what was to come was like imagining kissing your estranged brother.

Marcus opened his mouth to comment, just as the maintainer of the kissing booth said with a holler, “This is the last kiss of the morning, everyone! An hour break, then we get a girl in. Finally, right?”

The girls currently in line sighed and whined despondently, but the line dispersed until it was only Marcus in his booth and Esca propping his elbows on the window sill, leaning in slightly. He looked expectant, but bored, like he was thinking let’s get this over with. Marcus would be shocked if Esca was thinking anything other.

“This a joke?” Marcus said, his brow furrowed.

Esca rolled his eyes, practically slouching into the window until Marcus had to press his back against the booth to keep from brushing up against him. “If only. Marina wants me to contribute to the cause.”

Marcus raised his eyebrows. “Of... pom-poms.”

“And pleated skirts. Shiny ones.”

Marcus flicked a look to the side. “You could’ve just given her money.”

Esca laughed, a short burst of humour. “You think I didn’t already suggest it? She shot me down. Bitch told me I had to do it the honourable way or some shite.”

Marcus couldn’t help but make a face of distaste. “I really don’t want to kiss you.”

“Oh aye, because I seem like I wanna snog your ape-face right off.”

“You wouldn’t be able to reach my lips if you wanted to.”

Esca went flinty-eyed. “Come here and let’s get this over with, yeah?”

Marcus huffed. He’d have to treat this like a band-aid. Just rip it off in one, clean sweep.

“Right.” Marcus cleared his throat. “Okay.”

Esca placed his hands on the window ledge, straightening up and leaning in with eyes open and fixed on Marcus’ face. “I don’t have all fucking day, Aquila.”

“Fuck - right - fine,” Marcus snapped, even as closed his eyes and dipped down.

Their chins angled, like they’d both already known which way to turn their heads. Like they’d done this before. Their lips aligned and met, warm and dry, and Esca tasted faintly of smoke and vanilla ice cream.

For a second, just a split second, they remained like that - stock-still and connected. Marcus sucked in a breath through his nose and was just about to pull back, when Esca’s soft lips parted. The tip of his tongue darted out; delicately, wetly sampled the swell of Marcus’ bottom lip - and Marcus felt his limbs light up, his chest expand, his heart go boom boom BOOM in his ears.

Humid, searing air hitched in Marcus’ throat, Esca licked at the corner of Marcus’ mouth, and Marcus dizzyingly imagined that this was it - he was going to pass out, embarrass himself for life.

A hum rumbled low between them, and Marcus noted it was him making the noise as he opened his mouth for Esca and swiped his tongue in - lapped at the sharp, complicated tang of Esca’s mouth. Marcus pushed in, pushed forward against the booth, with his fingers blindly searching out Esca’s wrist to clamp around the thin, strong bone.

Esca tasted like everything Marcus hadn’t known he’d dreamed of. The pulse crashing beneath Marcus’ thumb was like the thumping bass to a song he’d memorised forever ago. And when Esca sunk his teeth into Marcus’ bottom lip, there was no thinking about anything anymore.

Just as Marcus’ brain had decided to shut down, Esca began to ease away. Marcus uttered a noise of protest, yanked Esca’s wrist and pulled him back; captured his mouth anew for one long, last searing kiss.

When they parted, and Marcus reluctantly released his hold on Esca, there was a good thirty seconds of silence between them. Marcus watching Esca with a mish-mash of shock and awe and dear God, now would be a good time to strike me down. Esca glowering at Marcus with a gaze like a scalpel as he swiped the back of his hand over his pink mouth.

“That was probably worth more than one dollar,” Marcus said, now looking everywhere but Esca’s face.

Esca’s face was red, his eyes a flame blue as he slapped a five dollar bill on the ledge of the booth. “Mention this to me - anyone - again and I will end you.”

Marcus blinked. Before he could muster a reply, Esca was stalking away like there was a fire at his heels.

“Probably worth more than five, too,” Marcus said to himself.

Now what?
