Director J.J. Abrams has beamed aboard Alice Eve for his upcoming Star Trek sequel.

Variety reports that the English-born She's Out of My League and Entourage actress, 29, will be "playing a character that's believed to be new to the canon."

Hopefully - HOOOOPEFULLY, she ends up playing a kick-ass female character, and not someone's side-kick, or just around to be a love interest. Let's keep our fingers crossed! I'm sure you'll come around to her!

I have never heard of her before but she looks gorgeous! And I am super excited that news, speculation and gossip about XII is FINALLY starting to trickle in. Is it too early to start the countdown??

She is rather gorgeous, isnt she? In like, an approachable way. Kind of like a female Kirk at this point... Who knows who she'll be, though! AND I'M TOTES STARTING MY COUNTDOWN.

I'm completely with you on that. Uhura was turned into a 'girlfriend' and not her own stable character. Gaila was like... there for a minute... I'm also hoping this doesn't end up being a case of a Captain's love interest. I WISH this would be Kirk turned into a female by some random whatever transporter accident, but obviously she'll be playing a... y'know, real character hahaha.

Kirk wouldn't be Kirk if he wasn't all over that (unless she is a crew member). I hope they don't bring her on just as a love interest for Kirk. It might be funny if he tried it on and she shot him down.
