I'm not even making this a Friends Only post because you all need to know.

So I've told a few people in my time answering replies that Jim's characterisation from Keep Calm and Conceal Vulcans is based off me on quite a lot of levels. Not his douchebaggery, I like to think, but all of his geekiness is straight from my green little heart.

And to prove to you I'm not making that up (although why would I, but still), here is ( Read more... )

tomfoolery, personal

Hehe! Fab convo! I think if I said that to my mum, it'd probably be answered with silence and then she'd change the subject. :-)

I think the fact you channel Kirk is the reason his characterisation is so well-rounded and has depth in Keep Calm

Any updates coming soon?

*gives you a hopeful look*

I'm working diligently (read: lazily, but working all the same) on the next chapter. I'm trying to get out of the angst hole I dropped myself in from last chapter, but this is the very centre of the series and so it's the crux of a lot of issues and so forth. Things must come to a head before I can settle them! Anywho, I suspect it should be done in about a week :D I must admit, I'm super excited to introduce Sam.

Oh, I'm so looking forward to seeing how Sam's dynamic impinges on/affects what's happening between Kirk and Spock - this is such a great story. :-)

If I said that, my parents would say something equally geeky in return without pause. o_o

In fact, I think my dad has explained things going wrong as there being a 'disturbance in the force.'

I love my family...

LOL LUCKY YOU.

I have no fandom geeks in my family. I specify fandom because my dad is like... a genius, and my mother is really into celebrity news and whatnot, but neither of them are geeks/nerds in the sense of the word that they're obsessed with Sci-Fi or Fantasy or anything like that.

Somehow I got this way on my own with absolutely no encouragement or discouragement from them. Mostly my geekiness has bloomed since I've lived with his husband. I'd never even seen the Star Wars films until I was 18 or so, and TOS and STXI after my 21st birthday.

That being said, my love/obsession of cartoons comes from my dad. He's a big kid, always encouraged me to watch X-Men, Superman, Batman, Ninja Turtles, etc etc.

STILL, ONLY MY HUSBAND UNDERSTANDS ME. AND YOU GUYS OF COURSE <3

I think I may have influenced my daughter a bit over the years, but it's really come out now she's dating a guy who's really into comics - they're planning on going to Kapow Comic Con in London in April. When I told her about cosplay and showed her stuff on the net (photos from sci-fi cons, etc.) she got totally into it and that night sent me details of the poison ivy costume she wants to make and wear. :-)

I'll get her into fandom yet. :D

Ahhhh oh my gosh, that's wonderful! I hope I can pass on the fandom love to my kids - hopefully they'll be interested in some of the things that I am.

Now I'm awfully tempted to attend that comic con! My husband's birthday is a couple of days before that and it would be nice to surprise him with tickets or something.

My mom is a darling, but bless, she is not a geek in the slightest. She loves her BBC mystery shows and musicals XD

LOL I hope that your children one day appreciate geeky fandom as much as you guys! Then you can bond over nerdyness :D :D

Hahaha I'm happy to hear I'm not alone. My mom is a sweety-pie (nicest woman I've ever known, no joke), but she is so clueless about sci-fi and fantasy.
