The Opposition parties are threatening to topple the Conservative government on Monday when the Tories present their budget. Since it's a money bill, it could trigger an election - all of 7 weeks after the last one.

Yes, I had heard about this when it came about. I unfortunately had a jaded reaction that this was merely typical Harper trying to make Canada a one-party state. They are also cleverly spinning it as though the Opposition Parties are unwilling to "tighten their belts" in the downturn and as though they are being greedy when the Conservatives are nobly sacrificing their party funding for the sake of the economy.

A lot of bullshit, but it's amazing what Canadians will swallow.

Sadly, it's a bad time for a loose left wing coalition to govern. The results could be sheer disaster. If the leaderless coalition were to try to govern and mess anything up, even through their own inability to make consensus decisions, Harper has a one-way ticket to a landslide majority. The one-party state come true.
