I've just started rewatching Sherlock S2E1 again for the first time since the month it came out, and five minutes in I've just finally put two and two together.  I've never been able to understand why Irene calling Jim Moriarty would cause him not to want to kill Sherlock and John after all.  Was Irene calling about the planes and Mycroft doing ( Read more... )

'Cause if so, Jim Moriarty is the fastest gun in the west. That's incredibly quick thinking. Or was it that he had something new to do, and he was pretty convinced Sherlock could pull the trigger in time, and so he called it off because with this new info he didn't feel like dying yet?

I dunno, it has always felt like a magic phone call to me, a bit. But having a real explanation would be excellent.

I am, however, willing to believe that Moriarty is the fastest gun in the west. If Sherlock can solve crimes in seconds, surely Moriarty can come up with cunning plans.
