Nino didn’t know what time was when someone knocked on the door, one look at the window told him it was already night; he quickly unlocked the door expecting to see Jun, but it wasn’t.
“Nino, you don’t look so good” Ohno told him almost in a whisper.
“It’s just a headache Oh-chan, I just need to rest” He couldn’t tell Ohno in that moment, he needed to talk to Jun first.
Even if Ohno there was something bigger going on, he didn’t asked and Nino was grateful for that “I just came to give you did this” Ohno extended a bento box, it took Nino a few seconds to grabbed it. “You should eat it, Jun is gonna be piss off if you don’t”
Kazu reacted to Jun’s name almost instantly, “Jun?”
“He send Aiba and me to buy something to eat for everyone, he’s with Sho in his room”
“Oh” the mention of Aiba and Sho brought back all the emotions from before.
“Nino, don’t worry too much okay?” Ohno sounded assuring.
Nino nodded.
“Well, I have to go, I’m supposed to keep Aiba away” he kissed Nino on the cheek before returning to the living room.
Nino locked his door again feeling a little calmer than before knowing that Jun had been preoccupied for his eating habits. He looked at the closed bento box with a soft smile and despite his lack of appetite he opened it to have a few bites.
It was past midnight when another knocked on the door was heard, again Nino quickly opened it and this time there was no disappointment, it was Jun. Nino didn’t get to say anything as Jun smoothly closed the door behind him and took him to an embrace. Just the scent and heat irradiating for Jun’s body could soothe Nino in just seconds. When Jun sensed that his boyfriend was relaxed, he pulled him towards the bed to lie down with him.
The longest he stayed in his arms the more secure he felt, when Jun started giving butterfly kisses all over his face all the worries and doubts were washed away. It was really amazing how much power Jun had over his mood.
They stayed like that for minutes, taking their time before a conversation they knew was inevitable. Nino was the one who broke the spell.
“Jun, how is Sho?” he asked looking at Jun.
Jun sighed remembering Sho’s state “I left him resting, he’ll fine Kazu… time will help” as he spoke his hand was soothing Nino’s back.
Nino nodded relief; he already knew that Jun can be trusted to comfort his cousin even in this situation. As a reward he kissed the younger briefly before snuggling closer.
“Aren’t you going to ask me?” Jun said.
“I preferred you tell me on your own”
“The first night here he told me. He started asking questions about us and I just played him off as we say we would, but then he was mad, he thought I was just fooling around and when he told me I should take my actions seriously, that’s when I snap, because I started reproach his behaviour with Aiba, I guess it was all too much for he told me the one he loved was you”
Nino squeezed his hand to assured him that he is the one he loves.
“I was mad and jealous, I didn’t want to hear more from him so I just left him, I left him there crying Kazu” there was guilt in Jun’s words.
“Jun, he took you by surprised, you don’t have to feel guilty okay? I’m just glad you didn’t hit him” Nino was trying to calm Jun as tears were beginning to appear.
“But still I…”
“Shhhhhhh” Nino put his finger over Jun’s mouth. “You were with him just now right? And I know you’ll keep an eye on him because like a brother to you”
“And I thought the one doing the consoling part would be me” Jun had a little smile on his face as he looked tenderly at Kazu.
“I’ve been thinking a lot tonight about all that’s happening, it seems like destiny is playing with us but I shouldn’t complain because after all I got you”
“Do you say that because you liked Sho-kun?”
Nino was startled, he never imagine that Jun could know about his feelings for his best friend’s boyfriend. “…H-How?”
“Just little things I noticed like how you avoided looking at Sho-kun and Aiba-chan when they kissed or were too affectionate, your forced smiles sometimes when we were all together, and when you couldn’t keep it up Ohno-kun will very be very chatty all of the sudden. I guess I noticed because I was always looking at you, even if you didn’t notice me much then”
“Jun…”
“You don’t need to explain Kazu, I know that’s in the past now and I don’t care.”
“But-” this time it was Jun who silenced Nino with his finger.
They stayed in silence for a while.
“Then, why were you scared? I mean, if you know that’s over” asked Nino.
Jun sighed remembering “Because at the time I wasn’t so sure of how much you love me. I knew you liked me, but I didn’t know it that was enough to keep you by my side. If Sho-kun confessed to you, what would you do? I know it’s kind of stupid, because you care too much about Aiba-chan to hurt him in any way; but still, the fear was there”
“Jun-pon is an idiot. You shouldn’t have those doubts” Nino caressed Jun’s cheek. “I love Jun-pon too much to leave him” he pecked him on the lips.
“I know babe, I know now”
“But Aiba” Nino sighed “he’s hurting now and it’s in part my fault”
“You know it isn’t, it’s just the circumstances that sometimes we can’t foresee”
“Do you know what is Sho-kun going to do? Is he going to break out with Aiba?” Nino was scared of how much Aiba would suffer if that happened.
“I’m not so sure, but I think so. He told me that he tried to before we came here. He talked to Aiba-chan about breaking up but he refused, instead he asked Sho-kun to think about it more for a few days. I don’t think nothing he is going to change his mind”
“What?! Are you serious? Does Aiba know it’s because of me?” fear was Nino’s eyes.
“No, he didn’t mention you. Don’ worry.” Jun calmed Nino.
“Do you think I should talk to him?” Nino murmured.
“Who? Sho? I don’t know, that’s up to you. But I would ask you not to push him towards Aiba”
“But Aiba loves him!” Nino looked at Jun earnestly.
Jun “And Sho-kun doesn’t! Kazu, listen to me; I know you are worry about Aiba-chan, but Sho is also suffering. Do you think is fair for him to continue this way? Do you think is fair for Aiba to keep waiting?” Jun’s voice had risen, but after a few seconds he calmed down “Sorry babe, It’ just that… seeing Sho liked that… I want him to stop suffering so he can move on” he took a big breath.
Nino nodded, feeling a little ashamed for only considered his best friend’s happiness and forgetting how broken Sho really was.
“Kazu, as much as we want to prevent our love ones of getting hurt, we just can’t. We can try though, but if happens anyway what we can do is stay next to them to cheer them up, to let them know they’re not alone. I’m sure you and Ohno-kun will do that for Aiba anytime he needs it” Jun pulled Nino closer to his body.
“We will” Nino assured him “As you’ll do with Sho-kun”
Jun smiled “I will. They’ll just need time”
Cuddling they felt sleep quickly, after all it had been a very eventful day, and the next one was the last day of their stay on the beach house.
When Nino woke up, Jun wasn’t next to him, he realized that it was already very late in the morning. After washing and changing he went to look for him but only found Aiba and Ohno watching TV on the living room.
“Nino, Good Morning” said both of them.
“Good Morning” responded cautious.
“You must be hungry Nino-chan, have some breakfast” Aiba said.
Nino nodded and went to the kitchen, well he really was a little hungry. Ohno came behind him.
“Are you feeling better?” asked Ohno
“Yes, did you see Jun?”
“Um, he was here early making breakfast then he took some to Sho’s. He’s still there”
“Ah, okay” Nino still didn’t to start telling what he knew.
“Grab something and come sit with us”
“I’ll be there in a sec” Nino smiled, although he knew what was coming for Aiba, as Jun said what they could do is stay near, and he’ll do his part.
After watching TV for a little while with them, they left for the beach with no complains from Nino this time. He really tried to make Aiba smile, he let him annoyed him as much as he wished without hitting him on the head, well at least not as he’d normally do. Aiba noticed Nino’s chance of attitude and started called it “the Jun effect” much to Nino’s discomfort; of course Ohno sided with the tall guy to annoy Nino further.
When they returned to the house for lunch, Jun was already in the kitchen.
“Jun!” Nino hurried to hug his boyfriend.
“Good morning sleepy beauty”
“Hey! What did you wake me up this morning?” he pretended to be mad.
“It was a rough night, you needed to sleep more”
“Rough night? What did you guys do?” Aiba was by the kitchen’s door with mischievous smile.
“Aiba! Don’t scare us! And we didn’t do anything!” Nino was trying to control his blush.
Aiba just ignored him “But I thought you had a headache, or was it a pretext?”
This time Nino couldn’t help smacking him on the head.
“Okay, okay. I just came to ask Jun how was Sho and if I could see him”
Nino stiffed at the question but Jun responded quickly.
“He’s sleeping now, but I’m sure he’ll be better before we leave. And you!” Jun pointed at the other two “you better have your things ready and the rooms cleaned before tomorrow, remember we’re leaving early. Aiba, tell Ohno too” Nino was impressed at how his boyfriend could chance the subject so smoothly.
Aiba left the kitchen to warn Ohno that “Jun-kun had been expending too much time with Sho-chan, so now they have a third mom”
Nino laughed at the comment and then leaned to peck Jun’s lips “As you say, mom”
“Kazu! That’s creepy!”
Nino kept picking on Jun, while they cooked, but he didn’t dare to ask about Sho, he knew Jun was taking good care of him and he was afraid that Aiba could pop up again in any moment.
When lunch was ready, again Jun disappeared to be with Sho and after an hour, when the three friends were again watching TV, Jun came to Aiba to tell that Sho wanted to talk to him.
Nino saw the fear in Aiba’s eyes but he also saw resignation, he followed Aiba’s retreating back until he felt a hand on his shoulder; he turned his head and Jun was there sitting next to him with a sad smile. He leaned on his shoulder while Jun stroked his arm.
“Is really over isn’t it?” As always Ohno knows more than he led on.
Nobody talked for minutes after that. They can only wait.
His last night in the beach house was the first that Nino didn’t sleep with Jun. He stayed in the room with Ohno consoling a crying Aiba, until they felt sleep, entangled in the same bed.
Early morning Jun woke them up, and rushed them to finish packing and get everything cleaned. Aiba’s eyes were still red and slightly swollen, but he did his part helping packing. He tried to act normal but the sadness in his eyes gave him away.
When it was time to leave the house, finally Nino got to see Sho in the leaving room with his bag ready to go. Sho avoided looking at him and Nino didn’t force any conversation, Aiba however acted friendly towards him and Sho responded in the same way.
Already inside the train, they could feel how much the dynamics of the group had change. Nino sat with Aiba, Ohno was near them, and Jun sat with Sho. They didn’t too much as they pretended to sleep, well except Ohno who was actually sleeping.
When they reached the station, Nino thought he could sneak out for a moment to say good bye to Jun properly as they have been apart in consideration for the broken couple. However that was impossible as Sho’s father was there. Apparently, neither Sho nor Jun had been expecting him as they looked surprised by his appearance. After Sho introduced him, his father excused himself as he needed to take his son and nephew to their house as soon as possible before a meeting. But Nino didn’t buy it, there was an urgency in his voice that he found perturbing, and he knew Sho and Jun felt it too as they rushed to follow him.
When Nino was on the bus, after leaving Aiba on his house with Ohno, he received a message from Jun.
Sorry babe. I’ll call you later.

That gesture made Nino laugh, nevertheless the feeling that something was coming to disrupt his live had already arisen in his heart. And he hated that feeling.
