My Problem Is...I Don't Know What My Problem Is

Okay. Confession: I'm a whimp. My brain (to be cheesy--heart?) won't give up on FLESH AND GLASS. It wants so badly to be told, and I don't quite know why.

Around Christmas, I discovered this video, and I can't help but think it has something to do with it:

Dude, that sucks. I know how you feel. I think what works best for me in times like this is reading the work of others and taking a break from your story. Inevitably you will come across something that you can tie back to something in your book, and suddenly you're excited again.

The key is to give yourself enough distance from your book that you're not stuck in the same thought-ruts. If I have a particular direction I want to go, usually every time I think of my book my thoughts are going to go in one, predictable line. I need distance to accept that perhaps my novel just isn't heading in that direction, and then I can brainstorm new directions to take it in.

I totally get what you're saying about getting stuck in the same thought-rut. Your process seems really solid, too. I think I'm going to step away from it for a while and see where that takes me.

Thanks for the thoughts!
