This holiday season stuff is harsh! I'm going to put it on my calendar next year - December 1st, 2009. Just do all the shopping online and have it done. I spend as much as I would on shipping driving around!
Maybe you could get away for one day? But I completely understand how that might not be possible, but maybe? Is it a driveable distance?
I lost all interest in "The Spirit" when I saw that Eva Mendes had a large role. I really dislike her as an actress (and feel calling her such is stretching the definition a bit).
I am looking forward to "My Bloody Valentine." The CHUD.com review was very positive. It's been too long since there were pure sex and violence exploitation films that had a sense of humor about themselves.
Underworld 3 is more of a prequel which tells Lucian (my favorite part of the first film's) epic/tragic story with Sonja, his vampire love.
You'll have to tell me what you think of it. I just don't know if I can handle the full 3D OMG Jensen experience. On the small screen in the very tiny doses that Supernatural deals out, I can remember about packs filled with grapes and tempera paint or whatever they use for the gore. The familiarity with the show moderates the shock for me, I don't want to have to walk out on his film because I'm a wimp. But...I didn't walk out on Twilight and that's the first movie I've ever been seriously tempted.
Huh, I actually quite liked the first Underworld (I have the special edition dvd) but the second was a disaster. Joe FF'd through the box-car sex scene with a disgusted "Ugh, I don't need to see either one of those people naked." I would give a third part a try is I stumbled across it, but I'm not sure I would seek it out.
Having worked the behind the scenes aspect of special affects, blood and guts on screen don't bother me. What does bother me are "torture porn" films like Hostel. I actively avoid those. I'm OK with physical blood and guts and icky-sticky kills. I'm not OK with drawing out the physical violence to inflict additional psychological violence.
I've never heard that Spirit was going to be good, but that's because it's apparently seriously removed from the source comic... so I can't say I'm surprised to hear that.

Yay for shopping. I still have so much left to get done.
I wish I could go to that NJ convention.
