I agree that it is a departure from Viva La Vida. It sounds more relaxed and lighter and the songs aren't as intense lyrically compared to their previous albums (if that makes sense? lol)
My favorites would be: Paradise (catchy chorus!), Us Against the World, Up With the Birds (I agree with you! The last half is AMAZING! It reminds me a little like 42 where it starts out slow and then it completely changes gears in the last half), and U.F.O.

Yeah, I read the article on wiki after writing this and it seems I was dead right about Sigur Ros as they include a bit of Takk in the duo with Rihana (hadn't even noticed.) This is definitely a refresh of the band, and it seems this album is about a couple, Mylo and Xyloto. It has a curious story.
I would like Up AGainst the World More if Chris Martin didn't try so hard for low tones. His voice isn't made for tenor and he really strains it there. My inner musician cringes while listening to it xD; Hm not his best work, that =/
Yeah Up With the Birds is amazing and a great closure to the album. I loved 42 as well! (also because I identify heavily with it.) I set the last half of Up With the Birds as a ringtone in my cellphone =) Also got part of Charlie Brown.
