At the moment a lot of politicians are backing off the offshore drilling bit, at least the more liberal ones. The neocons are, of course, still talking it up. The trick is to keep them to this double-back after the news story isn't so fresh.
What's worse, and this was emphasized on 60 Minutes last night, is that there's another oil drilling platform in the Atlantic that's also having problems, but this platform could be a disaster that makes this platform's blowup look like a kitchen accident. Hopefully this disaster will prompt the government and industry to shore up the problems with this other platform, before it goes up as well.
