Author's note: Set right after 'Revelations'. I always wondered why Morgan, always very tactile, was the one to pointedly avoid contact with Reid when he was rescued.
Everyone had had to touch him. Hugs, supporting arms, a timid hand resting on his shoulder -
Everyone, but Morgan. All night he’d been hovering around, a comforting shape Reid would glimpse just one step behind the crowd, arms crossed tightly on his chest - always barely out of reach.
Reid was not surprised when his door was gently pushed open, sometimes after dawn, and Morgan took a few slow steps into the room.
“Hey,’ he said, his voice soft, when he found Reid’s eyes on him.
“Hey,” replied Spencer, quiet.
Morgan stood at the side of the bed, his hands uncertain at his sides. “I am really glad that - ” he said. He frowned, then started again. “I just wanted - to…”
He hesitated, his eyes firm on Reid’s face, dark and scared and sorry and - needing, so much -
And Reid just offered a tiny smile, and opened his arms to him.
