Speaking of Julian and first grade, yesterday he told me he could count by 2s. He came up with the concept and taught himself. I asked if he could count by 3s, and after an instinctive no, he was like "That's easy! 3, 6, 12" (okay, he missed 9, but still!) We're 2/3s through a 1st grade addition workbook we started last week, and they still haven't had math at school. We've done a bit of the subtraction book and we'll do more multiplication soon. His teacher thinks it's bad for kids to be placed ahead of their age, but I'm feeling very confident in my choice to put him in 1st grade (although I'm worried about it being an issue in a few years, when we're in a state with a summer cutoff and he's smaller/later developing than the other kids).
Also, his soccer team is awesome. I'll take video at the next game. They aren't playing around.
I think the Bristol Palin story is very relevant. Sarah Palin's *only* experience is as a PTA mom trying to make social reforms. She is against sex ed and her politics bit her own daughter in the ass.
