Calling all fellow headache sufferers.

Aside from painkillers, have you found any other things that might help? Like, I don't know, hot showers or certain foods/drinks or whatever. I'm pretty much willing to try anything. At least once.

My mother gets migraines & has all her life. She's always on medication. But I remember one doctor told her to stay away from cheese, chocolate & tomatoes. Those foods were triggers for headaches. And to drink lots of water.
Have you tried keeping a food journal, to see if certain things are triggers for your headaches?

Aww, darn. I love pizza and I love chocolate. :( Good thing I'm an avid water drinker, at least... I've heard that red wine is a really common trigger for migraine too.

I haven't kept a food journal, actually. Might be a good idea :) Thanks for the tips. *hugs*

I have some cold pads which chill once you unwrap them and you stick them to your forehead or back of your neck. They stay cold for about three hours and both Son#2 and I use them. If you can't get them I'll happily post.

Before I had that a cold wet cloth on my face and once a head massage. I had to go to the hairdressers and they include a scalp massage automatically. It worked wonders on my headache.

Scalp massage is an amazing thing. :)

I actually tried the cold treatment this weekend, and it worked! I have this bag thingy, filled with oat grains, and you can either heat it in the microwave or stick it in the freezer (depending on whether you want hot or cold, of course), and I actually fell asleep while the thing was on my forehead. LOL Thanks for the offer, darling. *hugs*

The comment above reminded me - my Dad used to get migraines and he started taking feverfew tablets - all the time. Once he did that he rarely got a headache at all. My mum keeps telling me to do the same but I keep forgetting!

I know this is a really late additional comment and may be completely useless but have you considered changing jobs?

It's almost exactly a year since I did, and I haven't had a bad migraine since. A few headaches now and again but no horrific migraines.

I know that changing job is not something anyone can just 'do' in these difficult economic times, but it's seriously worth considering it if the headaches are making your life miserable.

Lying down in the dark usually helps for me too, at least a little bit. Too bad I often get headache in the office where I can't do that. :(

Basil... eat the leaves or make a stout tea of them. I've had plenty of headaches and head related pain, and basil always works on the small ones, anyway.

That's interesting, and not too expensive either. :P Definitely worth a try. Thanks :)
