On Sundays after church, my mom and aunts and and grandparents all gather (usually at Aunt Amy's) for lunch. Amy's daughter was in visiting for Independence Day with her husband and kids, this past weekend, so naturally the family started leaning on me to come up with Mark. Oh family.

I love that you wrote this, though. So many families don't seem to know the real meaning of unconditional love and it makes me so sad (mine feels like it's included in this somehow, although that might be my own neuroses/paranoia imposing on my family's beliefs of me).

It was reallyreally weird, seeing firsthand that I'm not the only one they do that "Affection In Public; Reaming In Private," "Your Life Doesn't Fit My Definition Of Right And I'm Afraid For You So Have This Dose Of Reproach For Things You Did Your Best With" thing to... Like, oh thank the gods I'm not imagining this! But also I'm sad that other people are experiencing it.

I dunno. They can intend to do so well by us and still kindof crack us, y'know? Humans.

truly. It was a comfort, though, talking to my Dad ~three days later & kindof bonding over our shared "Nope. Love you! Bye!" reaction to that whole crowded mess. (Dad was also there, but since he wasn't seated with the grandparents/grandkids for lunch, and he beat a hasty retreat up to his still-standing garage afterwards, I saw maybe five seconds of him. They were a great five seconds, though!)

*giggles* it has that positive effect of expressing frustration in such a strong way that it makes me giggle a little and relieves the frustration ;-)
