I've had a few people do that to me at work, and I never know what to say. Racism is still thriving with some people here in SC (I'm sure you won't be terribly surprised by that), and I'm always stunned when someone will just come out with the "n" word in front of me. I find it hugely offensive.
oh i'd have to say something to *that*. fuckers. but still, there's nothing that i can really think of that wouldnt be overstepping my bounds, extremely polite, yet firm and whatnot all at the same time.
I'm usually just so stunned! I think our office policy is not to engage, just to remind the person that offensive language is completely unnecessary and refuse to participate in discussion that is not immediately dealing with their business with us. At least that's the way my co-workers and I try to handle it. I don't think we can actually call them out, but it usually does the job to just say it that way.
What time was the appointment? Most of the jews Wouldn't be on the road most of the day, because they would be sitting in temple, like I was, from eight till five.
Plus, about half the jews think it's unethical to drive cars on the holy days, so they wouldn't be on the road either...you walk or you don't go at all.

So it stops it. But it never ceases to bug me.
