Comic icon ‘The Sandman’ TV series in works “The Sandman,” the Neil Gaiman-penned comic book series considered a seminal work in the medium, is in the early stages of being developed into a TV series.
Warner Bros. TV is in the midst of acquiring television rights from sister company DC Entertainment and is in talks with several writer-producers about adapting the 1990s series. At the top of the list is Eric Kripke, creator of the CW’s horror-tinged “Supernatural.”
Kripke, for the record, said that he'd be glad to take on the project, but
in the absence of Neil Gaiman's involvement, he has proposed a few changes to the franchise:
Desire will be a woman. Duh.
Destruction will also be a woman, though instead of having run away, she will have been killed messily and possibly stuffed thereafter in a refrigerator, spurring Dream foward on his quest.
After a long chase through an abandoned house in which she gets beat up and loses most of her clothes, Rose will find the book, kept secret by occult societies for millennia, that details the existence of the Endless. Before she can read it, she'll get killed too.
Partway through the third season, the characters will all realize they are in a comic book turned into a television show. Mayhem and probably a crossover ensue.
Dream will be portrayed by teen heartthrob Nick Jonas.
