Oh my God I'm so excited for today. I mean I know that it will be a while before people read it and maybe no one will even like it, but it is the very first time I'm putting something out there since I said I wanted to be a writer. (Yes, I too am guilty of slaughtering my beloved characters when I was a teenager and calling it fic. I grew out of it, no worries.)
No matter how excited I am I still have to stick to my schedule. And that means it's time to give credit where credit is due.
Lyann. My Siren. She is the best beta an author could hope for. She keeps me grounded without breaking my nose, she keeps me going when I want to give up, she gently nudges me in the right direction when I’m stuck. She manages to encourage me and tell me what I wrote is complete shit at the same time. Her criticism is never mean or cruel, it is always helpful and constructive. She makes room for my personal writing style, never tries to push her own style and does not give in until we both agree the sentence works. And on very few incidents she even allows me to veto her choices.
Miss Nina C. My English beta. Guys, this woman deserves standing ovations for putting up with me. I never actually learned English, but I’m not trying to make excuses. It’s just that she has to deal with the consequences. Randomly placed punctuation, spelling, grammar - let’s not remind her of all of it. So far she bore with me and even explained some of my recurring mistakes. Promise I’ll do better Nina! She says she’ll keep going because she wants to know how the story continues. Isn’t that the best praise ever?
Lysachan. My guiding light. Whenever I want to read a good fanfic, book, watch a nice subtexty movie or series I always turn to her. But not only does she have impeccable taste she writes herself. My favorite AU fic in the CM fandom:
Keepers of the wind. You won’t regret it. (Unless you’re in a hurry to get somewhere ;) ) She’s made
great videos, she’s answered every single one of my (undoubtedly) annoying questions and to top it all off she has an eye for the detail. Sometimes she uses it for fun - see her
pic!fic - or to prove a
point - but never has it been more useful to me then in her
pic!spams.
Unfortunately those have come to an end, but while they lasted they helped me. Writing an episode chapter meant rewatching it at least a dozen times and with her eye for subtext I was able to work in quite a few scenes I might have overlooked otherwise.
I bow to all of you.
