I can understand the concerns re: gender roles, etc., but I refuse to feel any sort of guilt over liking the commercials.

I think this comment from the Bitch article sums up my feelings pretty well:

"I don't think the ads perpetuate any stereotypes. It takes stereotypes that already exist and make us see how ridiculous they are"

I definitely agree with this comment. These ads are too tongue in cheek to be taken so seriously. I think this is the main difference between the Old Spice ads and say beer commercials which use and reinforce these stereotypes.

Fer real, right? I think the only way Old Spice could've been more blatant about their intent was to end each commercial with "/sarcasm".

I'm a feminist and I love the Old Spice commercials with Isaiah Mustafa.

*whew* Glad I got that one off my chest.

I don't feel bad for liking the ads. I love Mustafa and I love wearing Old Spice (though I started wearing it before the ads came out). I hope Mustafa can find something to do other than these ads. Like if he could become a legitimate actor that also happens to be extremely hunky (the way actors should be) that would be great.

Oh lol at the Bballgirl1981 video this one is my new faves. I love abs!

Preach. And yes, I hope he finds legit work outside of this, although he is clearly enjoying milking the crap out of it. LOL

Apparently he just scored a role in a Tyler Perry movie because of the Old Spice publicity. Which....DEEPLY mixed feelings, let's just say that. But when you're a new struggling actor, Perry movies are part of the luncheon meat diet of trying to break out, I suppose.

He made his pecs twitch for Bballgirl1981. *______* I am jealous. I really FREAKING love the response to "raondy" because he used the phrase "WINNING @ LIFE". I dunno why this pleases me so much. LOL

I was watching these earlier and sfdfrfrgrtvgrfdrg

Ahem.

*tries again*

I have no problem liking these ads because, yeah, so very tongue-in-cheek. When something pokes fun at itself like that what's not to like? When you get an ad campaign like the godawfully sexist and dumb Twix commercials, it makes me never want to touch their product again.

p.s. Girl, are you trying to kill me? I STILL HAVE WORK TO DO HERE. :o
