So this afternoon, around 3:00, a funnel cloud was spotted in western Cook County. A tornado warning was issued and word started to spread around the office and as soon as I heard about it, I went into panic mode. But I was in a phone meeting at the time and no one else seemed to be worried and they all kept talking about calculating tax rules and ( Read more... )

Um, if you don't like tornadoes, why do you remain in the Midwest, which has a rather high incidence of them?

Because except for the tornadoes, I do enjoy the Midwest.

And also, everywhere has its natural disasters. If I move to the South, I get blown away in a hurricane. If I move out East, I get buried in snow. If I move to the Southwest, I melt every summer. On the West coast, I crumble in an earthquake or run from wildfires. All things considered, tornadoes really aren't that bad -- just like heights, spiders, Friday the 13th, and other things that people have irrational fears of aren't that bad either. ^_^

Tornadoes aren't terribly common up here around the Lakes, really -- in my experience, maybe one real one swings by my locale per summer. It just seems that whenever there's a scare happens to be the only time I update my LJ. o_O

Have not been in a earthquake yet, but I'm waiting for one to happen. At least our building is only two floors and opens right up to the outside :D. That way I can make a quick exit in the event that there is one (we live on the ground floor).

um yeah, one of the stupidest ideas ever. Have you read anything on earthquake survival? You're supposed to hide underneath a table or other secure structure which can prevent you from flying objects. And you know, we've been in LA for a year and not an earthquake yet *knocks wood*.
