I've recently come to the same decisions. IN the future, if friends of mine have a problem with me, I won't deal with them through e-mails or text-messaging. I refuse!
I've extended it to any really important discussion. I call it my "No-email-when-it's-just-too-fucking-Important" Initiative.
My first time doing this with the new initiative was with my friend Bobby to talk to him about a few things. It was really cool, and more relaxed than e-mailing. Stuff like that solely through electronic text of any kind is, in my opinion (distance exceptions aside like you said) cowardly and way too avoidant to be healthy.

And yeah, I wish I could say it's "cowardly", but unfortunately, since I've done it before, to do so would make me a total hypocrite.
