Dancing and walking

The weekend before last, we had a day trip to Chichester for a Day of Dance. We'd intended to go by train from Southampton, but then they announced a train strike. Pellinor keeps a car on the mainland, so the choices were, A, drive there and back, with him having No Beer! at a Morris event! :-O B, go with the rest of the side on an epic journey ( Read more... )

...it really doesn't matter if people make mistakes, as long as they keep moving. The public don't notice...

I'm pretty sure that everyone noticed on my first ever dance out in public at Wessex Folk Festival a few weeks ago... It all went spectacularly wrong. :)

Oh, well. It can only get better. I'm glad to hear that I took the pressure off the other side!

In one of my other sides, we once went spectacularly wrong in front of literally thousands of people at the Hastings Jack-in-the-Green. It was a maypole dance, with one of our number standing in the middle holding the pole, and we ended up with a hideous tangle of ribbons, people bumping into each other etc. The audience absolutely loved it, far more than they would have had it gone perfectly. Several people afterwards came up and said it was a highlight of the festival!

Those urban dual carriageways are a menace. We got trapped by one in Cardiff once walking a different route to The Bay. We were being forced further and further in the wrong direction, but did eventually find a way through.

It didn't even look - on the map - as a particularly major road - it wasn't the big dual carriageway bypassy of thing, but it turned out to be SUCH an obstacle. On our Wye Valley holiday, I think the nearby dual carriageway caused us far more problems than the river. But maybe that's just because you know you can't cross a river, but you feel that you SHOULD be able to cross - or at least walk alongside - a road. I get grumpy when urban roads don't have pavements.

Or only remove dogs that have acne?

Pity about the dual carriage way in Fareham, and the road to Fairyland, but otherwise sounds like a nice walk. I didn't know about the ferry at Hamble, that is now noted for next time I'm down that way! I've been on the Gosport one and noted a few pigeons land on it, sit near the passengers (but not too near) for the ride and then fly off into Portsmouth! I mean, why fly when you can ride, right?! :D :D

It's a nice little boat - painted entirely pink, as is the shelter for people waiting for it. It only takes 10 people or so, and in the off-season you have to phone to summon it.

Our river cruise on the Wye came with a LOT of added ducks, who were using the boat to hitch a lift up the river. The passenger cabin had skylights in the ceiling, so whenever you looked up, and you saw was the underside of a duck. :-D

The day of dancing looks like wonderful fun. I have gotten quite active in advocating for cycling/walking infrastructure lately and those roads sound exactly like what got me involved.

To be fair, there was a lot of good off-road dual-use cycling and walking routes in the area. I think I just missed a sign at one point, so ended up having to find my own way across the busy road. But, yes, there are too many roads out there that make me grump about the consideration towards pedestrians.
