Galavant and The Adventure Game

Jan 19, 2018 18:50

This year's Christmas presents included two very successful DVD boxed sets. The first is Galavant. I've wanted to watch this ever since it first came out, but couldn't find a way to watch it that didn't involve illegal downloads. Fortunately, and at long last, it's out on (region 1) DVD. It's a faux medieval comedy drama musical: think The Princess ( Read more... )

I'm shocked no one remembers The Adventure Game, though given I once themed an entire LARP event around it, possibly this merely confirms your hypothesis.

Must check out Galavant.

Many years ago, I did a children's library activity inspired by The Adventure Game. It involved far more work and planning than a single activity really should have done, but went down pretty well. I was surprised that none of the grown-ups in the room, who were more or less my age, noticed - or, at least, commented upon - the inspiration.

Galavant is awesome! It's a shame that a TV series entirely filmed in the UK, and full of UK actors, still hasn't got a UK DVD (or UK Netflix) release.

Galavant does rather sound as though you and Pellinor were identified at an early stage as The Target Audience. :-D I'll give it a go at some point, it sounds fun!

I can lend it to you at Easter, if you like, and reclaim it in October. We'll have finished our rewatch by then. And our re-re-re-re-watch. :-D

I didn't go on to being a role-player, but I do remember The Adveture Game with much affection!! I saw a clip of it somewhere sometime in the last couple of years, otherwise I might not have remembered the it from its title, but I would definitely have remembered it from your mention of the vortex alone!! Great fun!!

Galavant sounds fun, but I don't have a DVD that plays R1 DVDs atm, so may have to wait until I can sort that out.

Btw, thinking of The Adventure Game reminded me of another space-themed show I loved around that time. After much googling, I finally found it - Captain Zep - Space Detective! Looks like there's clips/episodes on YouTube! Oh boy, here I go... hope it's not too out dated!! :D

I think our region 1 DVD player dates from the long-ago days when Firefly was only available on Region 1 DVD. Fortunately our existing DVD player wasn't working very well, so we had the excuse to replace it with a multiregion one.

I don't remember Captain Zep at all. I wonder why not. Do you remember what time of day it was on? I see that it aired 1983/4 and I was at secondary school by then, and didn't get home until 4.30 or so, so perhaps it aired before I got home?

(Pellinor, by the way, is now singing the theme tune, and remembering it like crazy, but it rings absolutely no bells with me.)

Just did a bit of googling again:
"Series One, broadcast on BBC1 at 5.10pm, Wednesdays for six weeks starting 5 January 1983.

Series Two, BBC1, Fridays at around 4.40pm for six weeks starting 9 March 1984." (found here)

I was at secondary school too, so thought it had to be after I got home.

Oh dear, so sorry about Pellinor, I didn't mean to subject you to that! I do hope he's at least in tune! :D
