On BPAL, Candles, and Quiche

Jan 23, 2005 19:02

For the past week I've been trying to work my way through the freebie imps I got from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab last year. Out of the ten or so samples I've tried none of them says Me quite yet. Sybaris (from Wanderlust) was my imp of choice last night and Somnus (from the Dream Collection in Bewitching Brews) from the night before failed to aid ( Read more... )

The candle is actually in one uniformly-coloured layer, unlike the picture. *huffs* lol If I've had the fish it would go in the middle, as if it was swimming, kind of like this. This particular gel has a higher density just for embeds, and it's my first time trying it out (the gel, that is). I wish I had tried a sample batch before embarking on the final product for my MIL because I notice the leftover gel I am burning right now could've used a whole lot more fragrance oil. That's another reason for my dissatisfaction. *sigh* If only I had more seashells... the ones I have are from the beaches of Malaysia, I would make another one for her.

Ok, that was one longass reply to a simple question! Sorry 'bout that. LOL

Btw, I had a Meli Moment when I was browsing the BPAL website. They have a blend called Highwayman that totally made me smile! :)

I believe the description in the candle-making kit say the fishes are glass. I've looked everywhere in town- the mall, Walmart, Target, the Dollarstore, at hobby and crafts stores, and all they have are glass beads or pebbles or marbles. And the candle website doesn't offer the fishies separately. *sniff*

And DAMN, if you haven't tempted me enough...HIGHWAYMAN fragrance????

LOL yes, a Highwayman fragrance! It's in the Bewitching Brews section, and if you haven't checked it out already, here's the description:

HIGHWAYMAN

A brace of loaded pistols
He carried night and day;
He never robbed a poor man
Upon the king's highway;
But what he'd taken from the rich,
Like Turpin and Black Bess,
He always did divide it
With the widow in distress.

Stand and deliver! Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather.

Well, what do you think? Are you a floral person? *grin*

What is an imp?

Is that a candle you made your mother in law? It looks very cool. Very relaxing to look at.

Hey G, the folks at BPAL call their sample perfume oils imps. They come in these little 1/32 oz glass vials, which are perfect for when you want to try a bunch of different blends without buying big bottles of them.

And yep, that's the candle I made last Saturday. I really like gel candles more than paraffin wax ones because they are so pretty lol. The only thing is they don't burn uniformly. I know you burn candles... do you have any favourite scent? I could make you one! *grin*

I do too. I ordered one called Black Pearl as a Christmas present for a friend, but I couldn't resist giving it a tiny dab on my wrist lol, and the smell sooo reminded me of Hawaii! *sigh* Must be the coconuts in it.

Lovely candle. And I think you did a great job. If she doesn't like it, send it my way. ; )

I've gone through most of the imps and am about to send some off to friends. The only one so far that I just love is called Val Sans Retour. A very light scent. Floral but not overpowering or too sweet. There's one in there that's definitely a man's scent. It's called Greed. Hmmm.

Aww, thanks D! I hope she likes it. I've never made any gifts before so this is a very nice and novel experience for me. :)

Ooh, BPAL gave me a vial of Val Sans Retour too! Unfortunately it smelled like some kind of Chinese medicine oil on my skin. Damn body chemistry!! If you like I'd be more than happy to send mine to you. Let me know. The one man's scent I have in my pile is Saint-Germain. It's actually really nice, but too bad my hubby doesn't wear perfume lol.

LJ ate my previous reply. Grr...

As I was saying, you need a Nemo for your candle. Hee. And a Dory.

*giggle* Ahh... a Nemo and Dory would be great now, wouldn't it? LOL

Are you and Conn still planning on giving soap-making a try? ;)
