Favorites, people?

I'm interested in two of your favorites. The first, probably most important, is favorite cold remedy. Since, I've called out of work today with the feeling of doom in my head and a little temperature (and, since heavy recreational drinking likely was a contributory factor in the development of the illness, initially, I don't want to try to cure ( Read more... )

since I read a lot, it's hard to pick out an overall favorite, but I really liked The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon.

What sorts of Fiction do you like to read? Almost all of what I read is Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

I'm a sci-fi kid, too. More for socio-political speculation on evolutions in technology or world events than for hard science.

Have you read Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson?
What author/book would you recommend to me?

Any pseudoephedrine works for me... I usually end up taking Alavert, even though I don't have allergies, because it has 120 mg. of the stuff! Once you knock out the snot, it's easier to get better. Then just eat/drink anything "good for you," get some rest, and gargle with salt water. :)

I don't really have a favorite reading material... but the two books I just finished were awesome!
Fiction- World War Z
Non-Fiction- Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea

You can't go wrong with some good old fashioned rest, soup, hot tea w/ honey and plenty of ephedrine!

As far as cold medicine... I've run the a gamut, since I can't take any cold medicine (stupid allergic reaction to sudafederines!). As far as hurrying or blocking a cold, try Airborne or Emergen-C -- they both taste awful, but they seem to work. Or, you could just chug a gallon of OJ a day-- I like this better, because usually it just helps you feel better with fevers and sore throats. And, though science is still completely baffled by it, Chicken Noodle Soup actually does help, and Safeway grocery stores carry a fantabulous fresh version they generally display near the deli area. Seriously, I hate chicken noodle soup, but I'll lick the bowl clean with that one.

As far as reading-- I'm with nalroth, and all I read is fluff. Although, as far as fiction goes, A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is excellent.

John Irving's done some good things. I was introduced to him with The World According to Garp.

Any other author recommendations?

I recommend Tom Robbins, either Another Roadside Attraction or Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates.
