upon first viewing, this film remains one of the most affecting works depicting the life of truman capote, but compared to the later "infamous" film, one realizes quickly that this film lacked the emotional core that the other more colorful film had in spades. this film did best in exacting some of the best acting from already outstanding professionals like catherine keener and phillip seymour hoffman (who, it's said, stayed in the voice of capote during the course of the entire filming). in the end, it shows that this film got written by an actor as its truly any hollywood denizen's dream script. it's somewhat regrettable that that writing didn't capture the contradiction of despair and joyousness that everyone loved about truman capote.
