I attempted to watch Capote, after I saw Infamous. I have to admit, I couldn't sit through it, not after watching this movie first. I thought Toby Jones' portrayal of Truman Capote to be dead on, and done with better style than Seymour-Hoffman. I think this is a far superior film.

"infamous" outshines "capote" not in the depth of performances of its actors but in the more serious unflinching treatment of the whole of capote's biography. if one stepped away from "capote," one might think of capote as a semi-serious man who lead a life stifled by despair, but may not ever understand the heights of joy he also experienced. this film's form and substance captured that perfectly. punctuating a visually enrapturing film, we continually go back through documentary style interviews, and even in the opening scene, there's the arresting juxtaposition of clinking glasses, glittering gowns, and the polish of new york with some of the heaviest emotion ever delivered in song. further, "capote" almost made truman capote look like an accidental hero while not pointing out that he always understood the extent of his celebrity and of the farce
