I read somewhere that it was Russell Crowe. My source could be wrong. Who knows?

Great review. I'm amazed at the amount of negativity that's been directed at this movie, especially considering the unanimous praise heaped upon Star Trek. I didn't think Terminator Salvation was a great movie by any stretch, but it was entertaining, and it didn't make me want to walk out of the theatre like Star Trek did.

The more I think about the story for "STAR TREK", the more I think that it's a pile of crap. I'm not simply being negative. I don't understand. The movie is more style than substance. I was even able to create a large list of plotholes in the story.

On the other hand, TERMINATION SALVATION's story turned out to be a lot better than I had assumed it would. I'm still surprised that I enjoyed it so much. Then again . . . I felt the same about the three previous TERMINATOR movies.

I often worried that I was just being negative about Trek, but I did go into it with an open mind. I figured if I didn't enjoy it for the story, I'd at least enjoy it for the characters, and if not for the characters, than at least I'd get the snazzy eye candy. But the movie didn't end up working for me on any of those levels. I did like Captain Pike, but everyone and everything else about the movie either bored or annoyed me.

Terminator Salvation, on the other hand, definitely delivered on the visual level, as McG had the sense to keep the shaky camerawork and the lens flares at a reasonable level, unlike J.J. Abrams. And while I wasn't completely blown away by the story or the characters, John and Marcus were definitely a more engaging pair of leads than Kirk and Spock. Also, anyone who nitpicks about plot holes in Salvation had better be prepared to hold the previous Terminator movies to the same scrutiny, because even the best of them had their issues.

I can take just about any movie that has ever been made and find a flaw with it. Or maybe more.

Great review, but I thought James Cameron was the one who recommended/suggested Sam Worthington to McG because he worked with him on his the yet-to-be-released Avatar film?

Weber, you were right. It was James Cameron who had recommended Sam Worthington to McG.
