I do wonder if he or the next director plan to finally use it in the much ballyhooed sequel. I hope so.

They have said they are not going to reset back to the old series, in fact creating an au was a large part of the point of this movie: they want to be able to write more stories in this new verse in which the crew can be put at risk without the outcome being set by the known fate of characters in the original series.

How tiresome. Now, I'll have to deal with a future that includes a Kirk whose promotion was a joke, and a boring Spock/Uhura romance.

Why couldn't the TREK franchise simply create a new series featuring characters in a new setting - some time after the 24th century?

Wow, I thought I was the only person who wasn't throughly enthralled with the new Trek film.

Totally agree that something taking place in the 25th century, after Voyager would have been better. I would not have minded a show where things aren't going as well in the federation.

...between two characters that are basically introverted.

Uhura is an introverted character?!? Spock yes. Uhura?? The communications officer, the one who hangs out in the rec room singing and playing whatever musical instrument happens to fall into her lap? I never would have used the word introverted for Uhura.

I liked how they used Sulu's fencing background. Now if only they hadn't given him a katana-like blade... The whole point of having Sulu take up fencing was to keep him from using a katana (samurai sword) because that's what would have been expected from an Asian character.

I would. Her habit of performing in the Rec Room doesn't exactly convince me that she's the "life of the party" type. And her and Spock made a boring couple.

I totally agree about Kirk's promotion. So unrealistic!
About Spock/Uhura... Well, I've never been into Kirk/Spock really, and the womanizer side of Kirk is one of the things I less like about him, so I loved Spock/Uhura.
I like to read reviews of people with different opinions than mine... because I was telling a friend the other day that the chemistry between Spock and Uhura was GREAT! ^_^
That's my opinion, of course.
But I like to see a more "human" or "vulnerable" side of Spock, instead of the emotionless vulcan I'm used to.

I'm sorry, but the fact that Kirk is a womanizer doesn't convince me that Spock and Uhura are the couple of the galaxy. I just found them BORING. Simple. I don't care if Kirk was simply trying to pick up Uhura. Pine and Saldana still managed to create more chemistry than she did with Quinto.
