Yeah, Karen Allen was great. But so were Kate Capshaw as Willie Scott and Alison Doody as Elsa Schneider. And like Ms. Allen, they also got to portray some very interesting characters.
Not all of the "INDIANA JONES" female leads have to be EXACTLY a tomboyish type like Marion to be interesting to me.
Spielberg himself admitted he was grievously wrong in having his future wife Kate Capshaw befoul the soundtrack as an endlessly shrieking, mostly brink-of-hysteria, befuddled broad. She was damned tiresome. We longed to have Karen back in action, smiling her knowing smile, then zapping a bad guy, or group of bad guys, with the nearest hard instrument to hand. Fay Wray was peculiarly bearable when she set the all-time, never-to-be-surpassed record for female shrieking in the original King Kong. Kate Capshaw encouraged mysogeny.
If I were Kate Capshaw, I would give Spielberg a good smack in the mouth for that comment. Karen Allen had screamed and shrieked as much as Capshaw did. Along with Harrison Ford.
