I think I've read all of John Jakes's books, but the North and South trilogy and Kent Family Chronicles are my favorites. I think Centennial is incredible. Reading The Killer Angels sparked a Civil War obsession.

I haven't read any of the others on your list, but I think I'd like to check out the Flashman series. Thanks for the recs.

I've put North and South on my list of books to read. I've heard of it before and have only heard good things :)

I like historical fiction from a bit further back. My favourites include 'Innocent Traitor' by Alison Weir, The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory....books from around that era anyway.

I actually attribute my choice of university to North and South - I first read it when I was 11 and from then on was determined to find a history course which included plenty of American history as well as British and European history!
