I think you hit the nail on the head about 50's "B" movies. As I watched the flying saucer scene near the end. It did put me in mind of 50's classics like, 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'. The whole look of the the film also had a lustre that reminded me of 'Astounding Stories' covers. One last point; Hopefully Science Fiction is still as popular now as it was in the 50's

I really didn't appreciate this when I had first saw the movie. Like I said, another person made me realize what Lucas and Spielberg had achieved.

The CGI really bothered me, especially the scene with Mutt and the monkeys. But, the CGI at the end was a very nice touch.

I was bothered with the aliens as well, but now that you've explained it, it makes a lot more sense. Too bad my step dad won't ever accept it, haha. He hates sci-fi and he's going to be sorely disappointed with this movie when he gets around to seeing it.

I've never had a problem with CGI. To be honest, I never understood why people complained about it all the time. To me, it is no better or worse than the Hollywood special effects standards of the past.

THANK YOU. You've put into (more sophisticated and finished) words what I was thinking and wondering myself about this movie, both while I was watching it and afterwards; all the points you mention hit the nail on the head, especially the bit about 1. the setting issue, 2. the whole space/alien thing, 3. Ford enjoying this more than usual (sadly I haven't seen him look this animated in years either), 4. the opinion about Elsa from movie three, 5. ....okay this can just go on, you get the gist of it! :DDD

Yeah, the alien ship was a bit of a surprise for me. But I learned to enjoy it, I mean, if they made something exactly like the other movies, where would the fun be? Shia playing his son was expected, everything else could be predicted. But no one did think they would actually put E.T. on scene ( ... )

Sorry, I meant that I'm not a native English speaker. (gotta make sure that mind waits for hand to finish typing next time)
