wait a minute, that ridiculous Captain Proton program was supposed to be entirely a product of his imagination? I thought it was a created B movie. Something that in the Star Trek Universe was actually produced in the 1950's.

I was never impressed with it, but then I can't stand B-movies unless it's being MSTed

According to the Trek universe, Tom Paris got the idea of Captain Proton from a B-movie called "The Bride of Chaotica". Chaotica is obviously a character from the movie, but Paris created the story and other aspects of the Proton universe on his own.

I also dislike B-movies. But I do enjoy a good spoof. Hence, my love of this particular episode.

And I found the cultural pursuits on TNG rather pretensious. Which is why I'm not a big fan of the Enterprise crew's holodeck activities - with the exception of the Dixon Hill stuff.

Oh I totally agree. This episode is probably my favorite Voyager episode as well. Also, you are right that the attitude of the Voyager crew to Tom's idea of fun is annoying. Who cares what he does in his free time to relax? What makes one form of entertainment automatically better than another?
