Movies I can't wait to see:

The Bourne Ultimatum - good actors, great budget, looks like a nice solid action thriller
Stardust - a surprise winner from the previews before Transformers, although that was a longer trailer than this. Robert De Niro as a flying pirate (plus witches and heroes and princes and and and). What more could one ask for? ( Read more... )

Hhmm. Bourne I'm definitely seeing, Stardust's not the kind of film I'd normally see but it does look cool what with De Niro - and more importantly Peter freakin' O'Toole, War is pretty much eh see it at a loose end, I'm lucky with The Golden Compass that I've never read the books so that should be fun, and Shoot 'Em Up seems to be Clive Owen's anti-Children of Men and very much brainless fun. Looks like a fun crop of films. :o)

Oh and your links to Stardust and War both point to the War site. Looks like you mistyped the code or some such.

Dear /god/ this is a summer of great movies. I'll just read your blog to find out whats worth watching, all of these look great.

War - Once I saw the cast I didn't need to see anything more.
Bourne - Loved all the books and the last two films, so i'm sure this will be good.
Shoot em up - As above x 10
Golden compass - I'll probably have to go and read the books now - its gotten my interest.
Stardust - Looked the weakest out of the 5, but I will still probably see it.

Really? Going from personal experience I've found that people who really liked the original books seemed to split into two major groups regarding the films - those that can put them aside and enjoy the fact that the films are based off of the premise of them (and happen to rock) and those that get really bent out of shape over the fact that they dared to deviate from them, with the idiots being the larger of the two groups. But like I said this is just what I've encountered.

Personally I loved the books and really enjoyed the films as well, managed to plough through all three of them over a week or two one summer holiday a decade or so back when I was in the south of France. And then proceeded to completely rip them off for a Shadowrun character background years later. :o) You ever read the fourth one his estate licensed out to some other guy a few years back 'cause I've never gotten around to it so was wondering how good or bad you thought it was?
