Thanks. When I was building this up from a one-shot I figured out Sam's goal, and from there, had to plot Dean's reaction, and I could only see him reacting one way, so...

Yup. Kinda hard to give orders from non-existance.

Sam had to try to explain what he did--if not to save himself from Dean's wrath, for Dean to know later. Not that he thought it'd help.

Yeah, from Sam's POV, in the universe they're living in, this is the best it can be.

I wonder, in how many realities did Sam see Dean beat him to death?
