Huh, there's something satisfying about Sam having to raise a younger person with a military background. It's a good fit overall tho'.

I think just having some sort of mission and not being alone will go a long way towards keeping Ben focused enough that he won't need to be put down like old yeller.

Oo, I actually am a brand-new Dark Angel fan (as in, I binged both seasons of it in five days, eehehehe...), and this story is a fabulous mesh of the two series. I haven't read enough DA fic (and only a smattering of SPN fic as well), but I absolutely love how you handled this scenario. Bitty!Ben and Older!Alone!Sam~ what a fun dynamic to work with! It made me really sad in DA when Ben had to die, so I'm really glad that you're coming up with a really nifty way of (hopefully) preventing that. :D

I'm going to have to go check out part II now that I know it's up here. :3 Thank you for sharing this with us!

Yay! Me too, actually. Well, okay, more like 8 days to get through both seasons. Unfortunately I had to sell season 1 back to the store to afford season 2 and I didn't quite get all the screen-caps I wanted to. I really want a young!ben Icon. Maybe with the shadow-puppets.

I'm really digging the dynamic too. They're fun to write. Not shiny-happy, but fairly angst-free. somehow.

I really wanted to do as little tampering with the two canons as possible. Until SPN hits season 4 or so, this can be a clean and plausible AU from Devil's Trap onward. Except for Max's interactions with Ben and how that colored her relationship with Alec, I don't think anything will happen that alters the DA timeline either.

Ben was probably born in 2000, maybe mid-to-late 1999. That puts Dean at 20 or 21. He's white, young, healthy and handsome. If he could qualify for a membership to Mensa, he could get a few bucks.
