They all seem so desperate. It's rather exciting, and frightening too.

I tried to craft the fringe Alphas as desperate rather than aggressive. They see so little future for themselves, such slim hopes of ever getting a chance to court an omega, start a family. The bonding instinct and the need for the pheromone component in a mate are tearing them apart and there's nothing, nothing they can do about it. It is a deeply unfair situation for everyone involved. :(

Interesting dynamic the alphas desperate and the situation able to get heated but so far at least it's the desperation that comes across not aggression. Like with the kitty gift there's a rather sad hopefulness and need. So easy for it to combust though.

Oleksiac keeps the kitten, when Tyler doesn't want it. He's a mechanic on one of the ore haulers going from the mines to one of the original six colonies, and he trades for her there, a scrawny little thing, expensive where she was but precious on the fringe. He keeps her, on the vague and groundless hope that there will be another Omega, another chance. He calls her Mina and she rides in his jacket pocket when she's young, and on his shoulder when she grows too large, nuzzling his ear when he's down, grooming his hair like he's her offspring. Sleeps beside him in his bunk. She lives to be a grouchy old lady-cat of nineteen years old.

There never is another Omega, another chance.

He's low on funds when she passes, but he saves, a month's wages or more.

Ria is a tiny little thing, ginger where Mina had been jet black.

She's just for him.
