So, instead of actually putting new words on my hockey big-bang fic today (which is at 13,000 words), I tried to keep other plot-bunnies from distracting me, by outlining them in Scrivener.

I outlined 3 different fics today, between 9 and 14 note-cards/scenes each (and they'd be sure to expand from there if/when I actually get into the writing).

Ooooo. That sounds interesting even to my non-hockey tuned brain!

Hee! Which one? It is so weird/amazing to have a stack of actually finish-able fics just waiting for me to have writing time.

the Sid/Geno, where Sid has a very bad night after a game, and the dystopian fic because I love those kind of things and because Sid is kinda cute. :)

The Sid/Geno has the least conflict, no outside enemy (beyond the real world being the real world and inconvenient). But it would be sweet and fun to write, maybe.

The dystopian one has Sid all roughed-up and bad ass. Take all that focus he put on hockey from a young age and put it into honing himself into a weapon fit to survive years of fighting for his life in a man-made gladiatorial hell. I do love messing up the pretty ones. :)

How do you like Scrivner?

I love Scrivener. Love love. The learning curve was super-quick for what I use of the features, and it's totally changed how I write (for the better). I love the notecards. I love being able to switch between different sections of a fic with a click, and to put a place-marker where I realize I need another scene, and it's just awesome. I spend a lot less time working on fic that will go nowhere.

Well, I bought the app, and have been kind of too intimidated to use it! But yeah, I wanted the notecard option, etc.

Jump right in. Start by using it like you would Word. Open a blank file and type. Then make some more chapter-breaks there on the left with the big green + button. Click on "Draft" to see your cards, and put some notes on them. Click the title of the card (on your left hand column) and write the parts of the story that correspond to the card.

That's about all the features I use, and it's done wonders for my fic-completion rate. :)

I love being able to see where I've been and where I"m going, what scenes have to be written yet. The Leverage/Losers fic I wrote, when I started getting tangled near the action climax, I wrote that in tiny sections from the end back to the start of the action. I can be writing and see "Oh, I should have had X happen back there" and I can easily make a place-holder for it. I can see when I'm outlining if there's just no possible end for a fic, or where I have a big jump from one envisioned scene to the next.

One of the notes is "P insults J, his face and his hockey This cracked me up!

All three sound interesting.

How do you make a believable romance from that, I ask you.
