*Sighs*

I have no words for this. None. I just really hope that there's a special place in hell for the people who cheered this on -- and the people who initiated it. Now, granted, ( Read more... )

Fandoms ruin everything. That's why I'm only on the periphery of mine.

Yeah. Doesn't exactly help that one can fill an entire *video* with examples of stupid fandoms (as seen here -- warning: possibly triggering/stupid/squicky content: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/nash/wtfiwwy/29398-snap-crackle-pop-culture). *Sighs*

But seriously, I think somehow, the assault just makes it worse. :(

NOT that it is AT ALL okay, but it's not the first time a fan/non-fan or actor has been stalked or assaulted by far.

Yeah. *Sighs* I really can't stand that. I'm really sorry you had to go through it. :(

I truly miss the old days where extreme fandom meant owning a costume or a prop (before "cosplay" was even a word), the general fandom of anything was just fun, and the really fringe douchebaggery was frowned upon by largely everyone. But then, that was also pre-internet, before the true freaks could coordinate.

Am I awful for bursting into giggles at your icon?

But yeah...*sighs* This.

Looks like the original post has been deleted but I guess I'm lucky not to have known the details of that post because it's behaviour like that that makes me glad I 1) never gone to conventions, 2) don't hang out in big fandoms on a regular basis anymore. As you said it's not the entire fandom's fault that a small group ruins everything but it's not very encouraging for new comers either.

Someone was basically assaulted and humiliated (even downright
molested) really, just for not being a fan of HOMESTUCK. And no one in the crowd bothered to help her. Fortunately, the con staff intervened, but still...

*sighs*

I know most fanbases can be crazy. I didn't think they'd cross the Moral Event Horizon in the process.

He raped her because she wasn't a fan of Homestuck?

*head desk* I need to start taking defence classes.
