It's somewhat surreal to be in London seeing the news reports roll in about how three quarters of my home state is underwater. To see photos and footage of streets I used to walk down, places I used to shop, bridges I've crossed,

my facebook is full of friends who have spent the weekend covered in mud helping on clean up efforts. makes my heart very full. some of the photos are bewildering. entire streets of houses literally covered in silt. the streets full of debris... difficult to really get my mind around.

I was just checking Facebook earlier and a mate of mine was talking about making sandwiches for the mud brigade volunteers. Makes me feel so warm. The real tell for me with this disaster has been the amazing attitude of the people down in it, just stepping up and getting on with it. And good on them.

Seeing those pictures online was what made it real for me, so I guess I felt compelled to pass it down. Cleanup is in progress and it hasn't rained for something like 5 days now so it's on the up and up. Can't keep us Queenslanders down!
