Whenever I've been assigned a Project Team, Steering Group, Board, Subject Matter Expert etc, my first priority is to make sure we all have the same objective, we all know our roles, everyone understands what a plan is, they all contribute to the plan development and agree to the milestones, deliverables and implications for their area's... and they sign on to actively participate. I get rid of: people who attend meeting for meetings sake, talkers who can't walk the talk, people who aren't empowered to make things happen (either through authority or influence) and people not appropriate (so many business areas send someone they won't miss rather than the best person for the job ( ... )

We know how to do this stuff ... we also know how to block the process most effectively. He led us through the entire process and left us at the place where we get stuck most often... that of carrying out the plans, developing mechanisms for accountability, timelines and product delivery, and EVALUATION!!! His last comment was, "I will leave that up to you, guys ( ... )
