The MEFAs are dead, long live the MEFAs

Following the ratings discussion that got very heated very quickly and made big waves on the MEFA mailing list, the admins eventually admitted that they were tired of running the awards and closed down, not least because some dumbfucks allegedly levelled anonymous attacks on them. Second everything you say here. Great memories. I am nowhere near burned out either. My life gets harder and my health worse every year, but there is a lot of life let in this old nag. I think it is a challenge to think of renewal and building afresh, retaining the very best of the old, without the built-in accretions of things that didn't quite ever work as had been hoped or been outgrown.

Thank for the lovely banner.

Thank you for the lovely comment. I think we're making headway with the discussions - the pace this is going forward at is making my head spin, but at the same time it's awesome seeing all the momentum harnessed into something productive. :)

I too, lament the late, great MEFAs. But I'm moving on, and have volunteered at the LJ site of MEFA Rebooted. I'm in two of the committees; and discussion is raging fast and furious; so I'm hopeful that a new competition will rise from the ashes of MEFA.

Thank you for volunteering. I'm on some of the teams as well, and think we have a good reason to be hopeful. :)

I wish I could help, but I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to the whole thing. I'll be watching from the sidelines with great interest though.

That's awesome, too. :)

Though if you'd like to jump in at some point, feel free. One of the benefits of this is that the awards are literally being rebuilt from the ground up, and even people who don't have much of a clue (I certainly don't; all I ever helped with in the MEFAs was banner-making) can still contribute. Learning on the job, so to speak.
