Very nice. I love the image of Jack as "a tiger between the shadows and the trees." The change of tenses in the last part confused me a bit at first, but I think I get it now.

I'm curious...why does Lizzie think "oh gods" in the first part? That's what I would think myself, being a bit of a heathen, but wouldn't Elizabeth be more of an "oh God" kind of good English Protestant girl? *quibble*

I really liked this line: He was a pirate, she knew, and for that reason alone he felt familiar to her. Also this: His words were tangy, and bitter to the taste, because adventure could never taste like the comfort of candied almonds. Really lovely.
