I am have serious pronoun trouble.

At first I thought it was because I'm ODing on RuPaul's Drag Race. I kept typing "she" and "her" in reference to Blaine, and I was like, okay, girl, get it together. Blaine would probably rock the drag, but he doesn't identify as a girl. But now I keep "his" and "him"ing Tina, and I have to give in to the fact that I am just genderconfuzzled ( Read more... )

Maybe your brain is telling you to write a gender!swap fic?

I've never properly done a gender swap... I think. Unless you count unfinished fics with my writing partner where Lex Luthor was born intersexed and raised as a girl. :P Or the one where his mutant power is swapping back and forth between sexes.

I've never really considered it with Glee... but I did consider making Mike trans, once.

I've read a couple interesting fics that explore Glee characters as if they had always been born the opposite gender (i.e always a girl!Kurt and always a girl!Blaine).

This one is pretty good: http://twentysomething.dreamwidth.org/17812.html

I've been correcting gender use in Hebrew all afternoon... and I'm kind of sick of telling people that a table is male and a door is female. I'd think Blaine and Tina would be easy in comparison.

(Then again, I had another student the other day come to me after seeing La Cage aux Folles and was very confused as to what to which pronoun to use for the drag queen in the preshow. I love how my students come to me with these things instead of the youth counselor.)

These are good questions

I kind of hate gendered nouns in general. What about a door makes it female? Why are all cats dudes?

Every word in Hebrew is gendered. Chalkboard, male. University, female. The word for cat you'd go male/female depending on what the cat is. My cat is male, so I'd use the male form. Kind of like the word for child. If there's a mixed group of kids, the male form wins when you make it plural. The word for 'father' is a male word that's treated like a female word when you make it plural, which always amused me.

I was thinking french. I don't know that I could handle Hebrew. I think the thing I liked the most about taking Japanese was that I didn't have to deal with that crap. Just... a billion symbols to memorize.

Weird. Would a gender-swap mean making Tina the second Asian guy in Glee club, and therefore making her/him and Mike the second gay couple? It would be a lot more inclusive!

Also, especially for you:http://kermit-thefrog.livejournal.com/218995.html

Hahaha! That might be cute, actually. Tina's really a guy, but she's the kind of teen queen who comes to school dressed in drag. Won't Schue be confuzzled when he figures it out! And angry that he let Tina sing with the girls!

I saw! And commented ♥

Thank you! :D
