Queen Sized (stereotypes about fatties)

Apr 03, 2010 20:45

Lifetime had a movie on billed as sort of liberatory for fat girls. Instead, it's kind of like fat torture porn. It's called Queen Sized (much lolz based on the pantyhose us fat chicks wear, assuming we wear hose). It stars the girl who played Tracy Turnblad in the remake of Hair Spray 2007. The girl is cute enough, but the material is so overblown ( Read more... )

Drop Dead Diva is still the only thing I can tolerate from Lifetime. The rest of the time it's all RAPE! SPOUSAL ABUSE! WE ARE SO ~EMPOWERING TO WOMEN~ REALLY I SWEAR!

I think that's exactly why that movie was on. Because it's screaming "LOOK HOW EMPOWERING TO WOMEN WE ARE OMG GOOOOOD DAMN".

While showing pictures of her cramming cakes and ice cream down her pie hole, compulsively.

NOM NOM NOM CAN'T STOP NOM NOM NOM

I really would have liked it if they had angled this movie at her becoming so-what about her weight, instead of keeping with the idea that she's probably going to continue to try to lose it and obsess with it. That's not a happy ending to me. They could have cut out that drama in the middle with her gloryhounding (and then having to bow and scrape to apologize), and had her character grow further in her self-confidence and being okay with herself.

Sigh. A movie focusing on the other heavy girl who was okay with it would have been much better.

I'm glad I didn't watch it. As a fat girl, I resent the implication that we eat like it's a hobby and never exercise. I actually eat less than my skinny aunt. And I eat maybe twice a day and none of it is sweets (lost my taste for them). I'm not saying I make the best possible choices in food, but I do okay most days. I also walk three miles in one go four times a week coming home from "work" and it's not that hard on me. I hate the fact that someone looks at me and assumes I lay on my couch and stuff my face because of stuff like this.

Well, it seemed more like she ate like it was cocaine or something. UHHHHH GOT TO GET FIX! I do go for sweets when I'm stressed (or pmsing), but I don't cram them down my throat while sobbing. (Isn't it hard to eat while you're crying? I don't know, my breathing problem extends to this too, I guess.)

I used to walk to work, and I was still fat. And I got to the gym and am still fat. I was sort of thinner when I did Taebo every damn day, but I was still what the fashion industry considers plus size.

My biggest food problem is forgetting to eat or being too lazy to fix something to feed myself. If I can keep on top of that, I eat healthier. I do well enough and I'm pretty conscious of what I buy. It's bad enough when deliberately anti-fat media is out there, but this tries to pretend that it's on our side.

Wow. That sounds... less than positive. Way to perpetuate stereotypes and ignore real issues in favor of sekrit cupcake eating, Lifetime. (But then Lifetime brings us lots of terrible movies, so what can you do?)

Ugh. Anal leakage. Gross.

When I first read about what fat blockers cause, I almost threw up. God, that's so totally worth it, right?

"You have such a pretty face!"

I've gotten that one before.

And I totally eat more Healthy Choice than pizza, Lifetime.

Srsly. And anyway, a Hawaiian Pizza has fruit on it, protein, and nutrients. I guess we're supposed to believe that she ate the whole pizza by herself. I think a reasonable diet has room for both Healthy Choice and pizza. I always ate Lean Cuisine, personally. But now I eat Amy's bc they do non-dairy. I wonder if Healthy Choice is one of their sponsors.

But who can eat pizza all the time? Fries, that I could eat all the time (with brussel sprouts).

Healthy Choice has pizza too, I think. I can't remember. I always get the steamers cause they're awesome. As are both fries and brussel sprouts. If I get pizza, I get Kashi. I looooove their stuff.

Horrible movie, though.

it sounds like a terrible movie! i hate that the ads were for weight-loss products of dubious worth.

>You don't get to laud yourself for pointing out how mean popular kids are for calling a fat girl a pig and spreading around pictures of her eating when you're doing the exact same thing on a larger scale.

wow, yeah. i'd like to see you send this to the network in a letter.

Maybe I should. Not that they'd listen. They have to put on terrible movies somehow.
