“I wasn’t miraculously saved to run away from my demons, Keating. I was brought back to face them.”

“Be careful what you wish for.”

Inside his chest, Lex’s heart seized when he saw Clark tear the door to the jail cell off its hinges as though it were made of aluminum instead of iron. Clark tossed it aside and stepped forward, an intense and hungry look in his eyes.

“I looked for you at the mansion.” He sounded almost put out that Lex hadn’t been there to greet him, and his eyes flitted from Lex to Keating. Lex stood, watching in disbelief. After all these years, after all this time, Clark had revealed himself.

Then he ripped out Keating’s liver and looked at Lex proudly as he tossed it on the floor. He was showing off.

Fuck. “The phantom,” Lex surmised. He could only hope that Clark was still alive in there, would still be, once that thing was through with him. “You took Clark’s body.”

“Just a few cells.”

Lex could hear it now. The wrongness of the phantom’s voice coming out of Clark’s rosy, full lips. Too deep. Too rough.

“Clark’s still alive. He’s out there,” the phantom said slowly, as though to reassure Lex, and walked slowly toward him. Closing the space between them until they were at an almost intimate distance. “And you will help me kill him. I need meteor rocks. A lot of them.”

Lex felt anger bubble up in his belly, and he curled his lips defiantly around his words. “I’d never help you kill Clark.”

“Lex, redemption doesn’t suit you.” The phantom tilted its head. “Why protect a Clark who hates you when you can help the one who wants to be your ally?” It paused, lowered its chin, and met Lex’s eye meaningfully. “It’s what you’ve always wanted. Isn’t it, Lex?”

There was a chill deep inside Lex at the phantom’s words. It was Clark, and not Clark. It knew him. This wasn’t like those times when Clark had gotten high and come after him. This creature was reasoned, where Clark was irrational. It was full of intent, where Clark was directionless. He spoke slowly, with practiced words, where Clark blurted out whatever came to mind.

He was both Clark and his opposite at once. The sight was almost more than Lex could bear.

Lex raked a calculating glance over the phantom before him. “If you have Clark’s memories, you know that there are many meteor rocks lying around in Smallville. Why come to me? What do you want?”

“That would be telling,” it said vaguely, keeping eye contact with Lex. The intensity of its gaze was unnerving.

Lex stepped closer. The phantom did not back away. They could feel one another breathing. “Why do you want to kill Clark? Some sort of doppleganger imperative?”

“If you don’t come with me, I’ll kill you.” Its voice carried a gentle warning.

Lex raised a brow and tilted his chin up. “Clark would kill me.” Inside him his heart broke as he uttered the words aloud, but he continued. It might save Clark’s life. “Clark hates me… You are not Clark Kent.”

“Close enough.” It lowered its head until their noses were almost touching. It didn’t seem to like the idea that it was not interchangeable for Clark.

“Do you want to replace him? Really, you don’t want his life. I don’t know who would. There’s no need to kill him.”

The phantom gripped both of Lex’s shoulders tightly and a tinge of anger crept into its voice. “Stop loving him.”

“And what…” Lex narrowed his eyes. “You can make your own life. I can help you with that.”

“No.”

“You can. Let me give you what you deserve, Cl- what’s your name?”

The phantom seemed to gaze into Lex’s soul just then. “They never gave me one.”

Lex shrugged, hoping the phantom would let him go. It did, just as the clouds outside shifted, letting in more light. “Are you male or female?”

“Male,” the deep voice scoffed as though it should be obvious, but Lex had never determined that the alien parasites particularly had a gender. Lex raised a hand to that face, so like Clark’s, and all at once it was hard, uneven, and broken. As though Clark had been shattered. “Why aren’t you afraid of me?” it asked.

“You have Clark’s memories. If I’m not afraid of being choked, beaten, and thrown, I don’t know what other threat you have.” Lex let his fingers feel over the harsh, jagged edges. “It is a bit…”

“Bizarre,” the phantom suggested with amusement and bitterness.

“Indeed.”

The face resumed its smoothness, and Lex creased his brows, wondering what had caused it. He realized that the phantom had now placed one of his large hands on his back, though not threatening him. Protectively. Possessively.

“Why did you come to me?” Lex asked again.

“Clark doesn’t deserve you. Can’t see what’s right in front of him.”

“So you’re going to take it?”

“Depends on whether or not it wants to be taken.”

Lex smirked and was amused when the phantom did the same. The sunlight flickered over half of the phantom’s face. Their lips met, soft and pink to hard and icy blue. Lex felt huge hands grip his hips and lift him off his feet.

Clark. Not Clark. Clark. Not Clark.

His back slammed against the wall of the jail cell, and he realized that for the second time in his life, he was making out in the presence of a corpse.

“Mm ah… w-wait.”

The phantom grunted. His hands pushed down Lex’s pants and cupped his ass. His rough tongue lapped over Lex’s lips, then the tip pushed further inside. Lex heard the rip of his briefs and his pants fell around his ankles.

“Hm… ah… what should I call you? Clark Junior, since you borrowed his DNA? Kralc?”

The phantom snorted. “No. It would be more appropriate… Le-Lak.”

“Okay, Lee. “ Lex set his hand on the phantom’s shoulder. “I don’t know about your people, but mine don’t find fucking near a corpse romantic. Well, not normally we don’t.”

“Ah. Well, Clark’s people don’t fuck.”

Lex pulled his head back skeptically. Lee grabbed Lex’s ass and lifted him up hip high. Lex wrapped his legs around Lee’s waist tightly and felt Lee fold one arm securely around his shoulders. With the other, he punched a hole in the wall of the jail cell.

The next thing Lex knew he was holding onto Lee for dear life. They were in the air high above Smallville, soaring over it, and he looked down on the town from over Lee’s shoulder.

“Wow.”

“Never flown before?” Lee asked with a grin. He kept one arm tightly around Lex’s back then began angling his hips so that he could press his cock against the cleft of Lex’s ass.

“Not like th-is… I need some lube, you know,” Lex informed him. He paled when Lee shook his head. “Yes, yes, I do.” Lex felt something extremely large, but gratefully slick began pushing into him. “Wait… god, you’re big.”

“I take after my old man.”

Lex bit his lip and held onto Lee, pressing his chin into the phantom’s broad shoulders. Clark’s shoulders. Lee did not smell like Clark.

Lee’s enormous cock began thrusting, and suddenly, he flipped over so that they were flying with Lex on the bottom.

“Stop that!” Lex yelled, looking below him with bulging eyes. Lee laughed heartily and made a few spirals in the air as they shot over the city like a bullet. When he finally settled with Lex on top again, Lex was feeling dizzy and overly full, though there was a jolt of pleasure every time Lee brushed against his prostate. Lex’s cock was now erect and being rubbed between them. He bit back a moan and ended up only making a strained grimace.

“You’re not enjoying it,” Lee said with a frown. He shot upward and hovered in a standing position, sliding his supporting arm under Lex’s ass.

“I… uh…”

Lee frowned. “I’ve got you. I’ll never let you fall, Lex.” With that, he reached his hand between his legs, touching some of his natural lubrication, then began to pump Lex’s cock gently. “Let me know if it’s too rough.”

As much as Lex has expected Clark’s touch to be awkward and coarse, Lee’s hand was gentle and sure, perfectly in control of his strength. He watched Lex’s face avidly, eagerly. Then he smirked in delight when Lex began to gasp shakily.

“Good, good…” Lee crooned in his deep voice. Lex’s head tilted backward, feeling the pleasure building up inside him from Lee’s tender touches and his slow, deliberate fucking. “I want you to be happy, Lex. He doesn’t deserve you. I’ll make you see that.”

Lex closed his eyes. He wished he could stop himself from listening and believe for the moment that this was Clark touching him, fucking him, loving him. Their bodies doubled in midair coitus. Allies, friends, and lovers. Lex bitterly remembered the kinship he had shared with Clark and wished there were some way to make him understand. To understand him.

This phantom understood him. He anticipated Lex’s needs. He was logical, and like Lex, he understood hurt and abandonment. He knew what it felt like to have no one love you.

But he wasn’t Clark. He was, perhaps, too much like Lex. He would betray him.

Lex came to the acrid understanding that he could never replace what he and Clark had together. Le-Lak… Kal-El… They were not the same, and he could not allow the phantom to kill Clark.

Lee held Lex attentively while he came, and then made a loud groan releasing inside Lex. There was a hot rush as the seed rushed into him, overflowed, then dribbled out. Lex looked down with a wry smile. “Imagine that hitting someone’s windshield.”

Lee chuckled heartily and kissed Lex’s lips again. Lex opened his eyes and looked on the cracked face of his lover.

“Help me, Lex.” He hooked his hands under Lex’s armpits to lift him off of his cock. Then he held Lex closely, angling backwards in the air so Lex was lying full length on top of him.

Lex sighed. “You… I’ll take you to the meteor rocks, if you want them, but I don’t want you to kill him.”

“If he approaches me, I won’t run from a fight. He’s weaker than I am.”

“I’m telling you that you don’t want it. Trust me. Don’t you have his memories?” Lex looked up at him exactingly. “Don’t you realize how badly he’s messed it up? It isn’t worth it.”

“When you have nothing, his life certainly looks attractive. Loving family, loyal friends… you.”

“He doesn’t have me,” Lex insisted.

“He has your passion, you loyalty… your love. I want it,” Lee growled.

Lex lifted his face up to Lee’s ear. “You can have it, but you cannot have it if you kill Clark. You’ll have to find another way.”

Lee’s features hardened as he glared at Lex. They darted down to the ground, hovered slightly, then landed. He let Lex go and began to button up his jeans. “I won’t share you with him.”

“He doesn’t want me. You won’t have to.” Lex looked around, realizing that Lee had taken them back to the dam.

“And if he changes his mind?”

“Clark doesn’t change his mind.” Lex pulled up his pants and adjusted himself. He was quite sore, but somehow Lee had taken care not to tear him, and it had been a long time since he’d had such a good fuck. It had left him utterly breathless. He looked up at Lee’s face, which was softening back into Clark’s as they walked into the shadows. Beneath the confidence and strict sense of purpose, the phantom was profoundly miserable.

Lex creased his brows and looked up at him, curiosity winning out over the potential of having someone by his side. How long before this Clark left him as utterly as the last had?

“Where is it?” Lee asked him. “You’ll take me to it?”

Lex thinned his lips. Lee already knew that the meteor rocks would be here somewhere. He didn’t need Lex at all to find what he needed to kill Clark. A manipulation, of course. A freak after his own heart.

“Promise me that Clark won’t be killed.”

Lee scowled and crossed his arms, an obstinate gesture finally reminiscent of Clark. Lex smiled. “I won’t kill your precious Clark.” He pouted. “I might mess up his face a little.”

“That’s all I ask.” Lex said, heading for the lab where he had his store of meteor rocks, planning a test for his new potential friend. He was certain now that what he had to offer this poor creature that had never been given a name was what Lee had always wanted. Friendship, caring touch, and love. If he were true, if he would be loyal, all Lex ever wanted was being offered to him, but there was a deadly hook in this bait, a false lure. And he would be certain this time before he invested his heart that the alien would not strike out at him.
