Lex rubbed a hand over his distended belly and tried not to look too eager about the scent of popcorn in his nostrils. He suspected that he was failing, but put on a nonchalant face as he crossed his legs and scooted back into the pile of pillows set up on the floor of their den.

Kon practically bounced into the room. “Snacks are almost ready. Mom wouldn’t let me make the popcorn.”

“How many times do you need to set my penthouse on fire? Really?”

Kon wrinkled his nose and sat down next to his father. He looked at Lex’s belly. “How’s Lena?”

“Seems as excited as you are.”

The boy grinned widely and reached forward to brush his fingers against a ripple moving under Lex’s silk shirt. Lex hadn’t been surprised at Kon’s reaction to becoming a big brother. He remembered a time when the child had no family, and Lex remembered the feeling of wanting that connection so badly he could taste it, even if the people he was looking to for acceptance didn’t see it. Clark walked in with a large bowl in one hand and a pan of popping corn.

“You could use the microwave.”

“It tastes better this way. My mom always made it in the pan.” Clark said. He looked at the pan and narrowed his eyes, shooting out heat beams. “What are we watching tonight?”

“Ghost Dog. It’s a samurai movie.” Lex said, lifting up his nose and sniffing the air. “You brought that in here to torture me.”

“No, I totally didn’t.” Clark said with a smirk. He shook the corn into the bowl and handed it to Kon. The boy promptly held the bowl out of his father’s reach.

“Stop that.”

The boy giggled. “Why do we have to watch your boring samurai documentaries?”

Lex tried to reach around him for the popcorn. “It isn’t so much a documentary as a film made of honor, awesomeness, and gangsters. You’ll like it. Give me that.”

Kon shook his head playfully. Clark returned from the kitchen carrying in two more bowls of popcorn and a six-pack of root beer. He sat on the other side of Lex and waved one of the bowls in front of his nose.

“I made this to torture you.”

“You melted caramel on that you bastard!” Lex complained in a pained voice. Clark tossed Kon a root beer and used the oversized remote to dim the lights and start the movie. He moved behind Lex, easily shifting his newly acquired bulk, so that the other man was leaning against him and Clark could put one arm around his shoulders. “Don’t you have better things to do with your superpowers than make me fat?!”

Clark laughed and took a handful. He ate a bit then put it in front of Lex’s mouth. Lex clenched his mouth, trying to resist. He didn’t last long. Clark dropped a kiss on the top of his head.

“I like when you’re pregnant.” Kon said, digging into his bowl. “It’s like the only time you like to eat as much as us.”

“You’ll lose the weight.” Clark assured him. “You did with Kon. In like a week. Stop worrying.”

Lex snuggled back into Clark’s chest. Defeated, he took a handful of caramel corn. “It was more than a week. Watch the movie.”

Kon settled in and only occasionally snuck an approving glance over at his parents. The movie was pretty awesome. But so was seeing his parents getting along so well. Maybe not seeing them making out. Back to the movie.
