This is totally mindless, but I like it anyway. :P
Title: Progeny (I started writing this at the same time as Social Event of the Year, so I clearly had this title before the show did, so XP! And I’m not giving it up)
Pairing: Clex
Rating: PG-13
Summary: At a New Years party, Lex has some fun and pays the consequences. After S2 Skinwalkers
Warnings: underaged sex
Genre: mpreg
Lex wasn’t sure if Clark was on something again, or if this was even real, but once his belly was pressed against the kitchen sink of the Talon and Clark was on his back, Lex figured it didn’t matter. He couldn’t really push Clark off and didn’t want to, so although he had never been a religious man, he prayed, or hoped rather fervently that no one from the party would decide to come inside.
Except this was exactly what Clark had decided to do. Lex tried to clean himself up quickly and told Clark to wait for a bit before returning to the party himself.
Lex wasn’t sure if it was the champagne that he had been drinking all night or the garish New Years’ decorations Lana had picked, but Lex was feeling woozy before he even hit the midway point of the main room. He felt himself sway and reached out for a table to steady himself.
“Whoa, there Lex,” Jonathan Kent caught his arm. “Had a bit too much already? We’re hours away from midnight yet.”
“That champagne must be pretty strong,” Lex muttered, allowing Jonathan to steer him toward the couch. The older man laughed.
Lex leaned his head back and settled into his seat gingerly. Clark sure worked him over well, for someone he had assumed to be a virgin. Martha came up suddenly.
“Jonathan… Clark…” She looked from one man to the other. “He needs to talk to you for a moment.”
Lex felt his face flush in spite of himself. Clark would never tell his parents about that he was sure. Pretty sure, anyway. He arched his back and rubbed his stomach. It was starting to hurt a little. Must be the champagne. It hadn’t tasted as though it had gone bad. His eyes drooped closed.
“Lex!”
He found himself startled awake by Lana dropping down on the other side of the couch. He sat up a little, feeling tightness around his waistband.
“You must be getting old, Lex. Going to sleep already?”
“Heh. No, I…” Lex struggled to his feet abruptly. “Must be the champagne.”
He darted to the restroom, to unpleasant consequence.
As he was wiping his mouth and hoping rather fervently for death, Lex began to wonder if it wasn’t just the champagne. He felt queasy and tired and more than a little sore around his middle. He leaned against the stall and lifted his shirt experimentally.
There was some sort of symbol on the lower part of his stomach… It looked like one of those symbols from the caves… Now that was alarming.
Lex stood slowly and using the stall to support him, made his way over to the sink to wash out his mouth. He breathed deeply and leaned against the white fixture, staring at himself in the mirror. Jonathan Kent walked in.
“Son, are you alright?” he asked with a curious tone. He sounded angry and a bit worried.
“Define alright?” Lex managed shakily. “I’ll be fine. Probably. I should call a driver and head home.”
Jonathan grabbed his shoulder and turned him rather roughly. “So you’re not going to tell me about what you did with my kid in the kitchen?”
Lex swallowed and carefully kept his face blank. “It’s a bit hard to describe what happened in the kitchen.”
“I’d prefer it if y’didn’t,” Jonathan said with an edge. He dropped his hand and looked away. “You’re just going to let it go?”
“That… depends on Clark, I suppose. He…” Lex didn’t want to ask if Clark was on drugs. It was likely, though.
“Not going to press charges? I need to know.”
“Press… charges? Against Clark?” Lex asked incredulously. “No! He’s my friend, Mr. Kent; I wouldn’t do that to him.”
Jonathan rubbed Lex’s arm briskly. “You’re a good man, Lex. I don’t believe Clark was in control then. He’s a little flipped out, but he didn’t mean to… hurt you.”
Oh, fuck. Clark had been under the influence. Well, it wasn’t like he’d given Lex a choice either.
“Is he still…” Lex shook his head. “Disoriented? Maybe I shouldn’t talk to him… if he’s not…”
“Seems fine now. I’ve got no idea what got into him.” Jonathan was looking incredibly uncomfortable. Lex contemplated how to best put the aging, conservative, Midwestern farmer at ease with his only son having questionably consensual ass sex with a fucking Luthor. A sharp pain disturbed his thoughts, and he bowed over, cupping his stomach. “Hey, Lex…”
Lex met the questioning look in Jonathan’s eyes with raised brows and an anxious shake of the head.
“C’mon.”
Lex leaned onto Jonathan’s shoulder and came out with him. He winced at Lana’s strident laughter.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk, Lex!”
“Ugh… it’s a party, isn’t it?” He tried not to puke on her. She laughed again and touched his arm affectionately. Someone else had been dipping into the champagne, he deduced. He shrugged her off and watched her nose wrinkle in displeasure. She had begun to start sporting some extremely bratty behaviors that Lex hoped she would outgrow soon.
Jonathan led Lex back into the kitchen where Clark had remained, now sitting in a white wooden chair with his head in his hands. Lex moved to his side quickly. “Clark, I’m fine. I don’t know what happened, but I’m okay.”
“Lex, I…” Clark lifted his head. Lex grimaced at Clark’s tear swollen eyes and put his hand on Clark’s shoulder.
“Someone get this man a tissue.”
“You… aren’t mad?”
“I’ve had the unfortunate experience of being with friends who weren’t entirely in control of their actions before. You don’t live through the club scene at Zero without having that line crossed a few times.” Lex squeezed Clark and shook him a bit. Martha handed the boy a handkerchief. She exchanged a look with her husband, who had crossed his arms and seemed to be taking things in stride now.
“That’s really horrible.”
“Mm… yeah, it is.” Lex gave him one of his smirky smiles. Clark wiped his eyes and looked at him.
“Did I hurt you?”
“I’m sure your parents don’t want to hear about that.”
“Lex…” Clark’s eyes dropped, and he wrapped his arms around Lex tightly. “I couldn’t control it.”
“I figured,” Lex said softly. Then he drew in a sharp breath. He wasn’t sure what was happening to him, but he was considering heading to a doctor, symbol or no. Clark pulled back and looked at him worriedly. Lex searched his mind for reassurances that he didn’t have as Clark ran his eyes down Lex’s body. “I’m a little sore. I’m going to be fine.”
“You’re… huh.”
Lex pulled back a little. Clark was staring hard at his waist.
“What…?” He began to cross his arms over his tight sweater, but Clark grabbed his forearms. Eyes still widening, he pushed his hands underneath Lex’s shirt.
“Clark, no!” Jonathan darted over and tried to come between them.
“Just back away, Clark. You can do it. You don’t want to hurt Lex again, do you?” Martha tried to sound soothing.
“No, Mom, he’s….” Clark looked up in astonishment. ”Lex is pregnant!”
“What??” Jonathan raised his eyebrows and relaxed his shoulders. “You…”
Lex stood up and stepped back. The Kents looked at him curiously. Martha opened her mouth in surprised then said softly, “Lex, your…”
She mimed a hand over her stomach. Lex looked down and startled. He was getting bigger. Before his eyes. Lex was unable to think of anything at all as he watched his middle slowly inflating. It stopped after a moment, and Lex let out a breath. Strong hands moved him into the wooden chair.
“I’m… fine…”
The Kents seemed to be ignoring him.
“-get him upstairs.”
“It’d be better to go back to the farm, get him away from all these people!”
“Jonathan, I don’t want him to be on the road in his condition. What if something happens? Even if we made it to the farm, he still might need medical care afterward!”
“What are we going to do? Rush him to the hospital? God, what is Lionel going to say?”
“He’s going to disown me,” Lex muttered, his fingers draping lightly over his slightly raised stomach.
“Lex, I’m so sorry,” Clark pleaded. He rubbed Lex’s back. Lex finally looked up. He started to laugh at the guilty expression on Clark’s face.
“You didn’t know this was going to happen.” Lex tried to keep his breathing steady.
Jonathan shook his head. “What do we do?”
“I can call my doctor. He can be here… in a couple of hours.”
Martha nodded. “So… stay here?”
“I’d rather have him outta sight. The farm’s closer than the mansion,” Jonathan said firmly.
Martha sighed. “Lex, do you need anything? Are you hungry?”
“Not really.” Lex frowned and quirked his mouth. “Huh. You’d think I would be.”
Clark’s hand on his shoulder felt comforting. Somehow none of this seemed real.
“We should probably make sure he eats something anyway,” Martha suggested. “And... are you sore? I can probably find some towels. Put warmth on it.”
She knelt in front of him. “Is it okay if I look?”
Lex shrugged. She lifted his shirt, and he watched as she found the symbol and traced her fingers over it. “What’s that?”
He pressed his lips together and shrugged again. Clark leaned over and looked at it. “Looks like a Kawatchi glyph.”
“That’s what I thought,” Lex said. “But what does it mean?”
“Wear a condom?” Jonathon suggested.
Marta opened her mouth wide. “Jonathan!”
He raised his hands and grinned a little. “Could be?”
“This isn’t funny!”
“This is a little funny,” Lex admitted, leaning his head against Clark. He was getting so tired. He closed his eyes and felt Clark’s strangely smooth fingertips brush against his scalp.
He woke again curled up tightly in a ball. Clark was speaking gently to him and rubbing his back. Chloe was sitting over in a chair watching everything intently. Lex ran a hand down his front… and over his swollen stomach. Not a dream.
“Did we call the presses?” he asked groggily. He sat up slowly and realized they were sitting on some of the old furniture in the apartment above the Talon.
“Not so much. We called your doctor, and he’s on the way,” Chloe said. “I um… saw Clark carrying you up here and followed. I told the people downstairs that someone must have roofied you as a joke or something.”
Lex began to explore his firm belly. This was far too unfair a punishment for a little underaged fucking in a public place!
Clark handed him a bottle of water and encouraged him to drink.
“How long was I asleep?” Lex asked, before taking a swig. Chloe picked up some bags of food and brought them over. She had snatched quite a bit from the party. Lex realized, horrifyingly, that he had never been so hungry in his life.
“About an hour and a half.” Clark picked out a sandwich and pushed it into Lex’s hands. He couldn’t help himself. He tore into it and wished Clark would eat something too so he wouldn’t feel as exposed. “I’m kind of surprised because… you’re not that much bigger.”
“Speak for yourself,” Lex complained, trying not to talk with his mouth full. He took another drink of water.
“You should see yourself, Lex. I think it ran out of food,” Chloe speculated. Lex looked down. “No, I mean… hold on.”
She fetched her purse and began digging through it. She came up with a compact mirror and opened it for Lex. He swallowed and looked tentatively into the glass.
He was skinny. He looked at his hands to find them practically bony. He hadn’t noticed much, since his belly had begun to protrude in only a couple of hours, but the fetus seemed to be sucking all of the calories out of his body. No wonder he was starving. He was, literally.
“Lex…” Clark looked down at the abandoned sandwich. It didn’t take much prodding. Lex resumed packing the sandwich away. “When my parents get back, we’re going to try to move you to the farm. It’s not that far, and Toby will go there. Unless you think the mansion is better.”
Lex shook his head. “Lionel would find out if I go there.”
Clark and Chloe nodded. Clark began rattling off a list of questions on how he was feeling, and Lex answered them as best as he could while making his way through the pile of sandwiches. Would he even be able to move before it was over?
When Jonathan returned, Lex was leaning back, rubbing his stomach, as Clark tried to push more food on him.
“We’re gonna head out the back. Your doctor is in contact with Martha, and she’s trying to get everything in order for you and the baby.”
Lex closed his eyes at mention of the ‘baby.’ This was all far too fast.
Clark lifted him up easily to carry him down the back way to the car. Lex protested that he could walk, but Clark argued that this was faster, and after all that food, he was likely to have another growth spurt soon. He was right.
In the truck, as Chloe who had somehow been drafted to help followed them, and as Clark kept his arms firmly around Lex, his stomach began to swell, and Lex curled into Clark, biting back the weird, achy, rubbery feeling that it gave him.
“Clark?”
“Yeah? We’ll be to the farm soon; don’t worry.”
“No, I just… do you want to be a father?”
Clark was silent. Lex frowned to himself. This was so completely unfair.
“We’ll deal that when we get to it,” Jonathan put in. “Let’s just take care of you for now.”
“I’m so sorry, Lex. I won’t let anything happen to you,” Clark promised. Lex closed his eyes and waited for the growing to slow down. Having Clark’s arms around him helped a little bit, and Lex tried not to think.
When they reached the farm, Clark practically lifted him out of the front seat of the truck and seemed torn on whether he could get away with carrying Lex again. His pants had popped open during the drive over, so Lex grabbed them with one hand and headed towards the house without a word.
The Kent men exchanged a look. Martha came running out of the house and glared at Jon as she put an arm around Lex and ushered him inside. “God, Lex, are you alright?”
“I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
“Of course I’m worried.” She led him to a seat in the den and handed him a set of clothes. “I don’t know how long this will last. They’re Clark’s.”
Lex looked over them and sighed at the sweatpants and sighed. Clark and Jonathan came in through the front door. Martha sat next to him and rubbed his back.
“Why don’t you go try those on? I’ve been trying to clear out the guestroom so you’ll have somewhere comfortable-“
“Thank you, Mrs. Kent,” Lex said stiffly. He stood and made his way to the bathroom, ignoring Clark as he walked past him then closed the door and looked down at his middle. Lex kicked off his shoes, let the pants drop down, and began to peel off his sweater. He shuffled over to the mirror to get a good look at himself.
He looked emaciated. His face was gaunt, and there were dark smudges under his eyes. After the last growth spurt, he’d felt particularly drained, so this factor made sense. He was a skeleton other than the distending belly, which now had several symbols circling his navel. No wonder Clark was cringing around him.
Lex steadied himself against the sink and slipped on the grey sweatpants. They were too loose around his hips to stay up, so he pulled them over his bump. He frowned at the sight of himself in Clark’s pants. As often as he had thought about such a situation, this had not been one of his prime fantasies.
Hearing the Kents talking, Lex moved to the door to listen in on them.
“You’re going to have to give him some time, Clark. This is all extremely sudden and very strange. We’re used to unconventional biological circumstances, but he can’t be. Not yet,” Martha argued. Lex laughed silently to himself. If only she knew.
“He hates me. I raped him and got him pregnant-“
”Now, son-“
“And now he hates me! How can he not? Did you see that symbol on his stomach? This is all my fault.”
“Lex seems a little overwhelmed. He’s probably frightened. We don’t know what’s going to happen. Honey, look. All we can do is take care of him and help him have this baby safely. Lex adores you. I’m sure he’ll forgive you for the baby. He’s already forgiven you for hurting him. You don’t get many friends who will give you this much leeway.”
“I don’t know that I like that. I think he let his friends in Metropolis take advantage of him. I don’t wanna be like that, Mom.”
“Then stop pouting over what happened. Yes, you heard me, and help him cope. I have to go fetch something out of the barn, okay? Chloe should be back in a bit. I called her and had her pick some things up.”
Lex pulled the large white shirt over his belly. It was a little long on him, loose around the shoulders, and a little snug around the belly. The line of his sweatpants could be clearly seen against the fabric. He took a deep breath before leaving the bathroom and shuffling back out to the den. Jonathan and Clark had gone somewhere else, so Lex walked to the couch and made himself comfortable.
When he woke, someone had put a soft blanket over him, and he could smell something good cooking in the kitchen. He smiled softly. So this was what it was like to be part of the Kent household. Not eyed suspiciously and followed. Clark’s mother had once let him wait for Clark unattended, but he’d overheard Jonathan giving her flack for trusting him with the immense responsibility of sitting in the kitchen. This was nice.
And all I had to do was get knocked up, Lex thought wryly.
“Oh! Hey. Man-mommy’s awake!” Chloe chimed, as she came into the room. Her eyes opened wide when she caught the dark expression on his face. “Uh… let me get Mrs. Kent.”
The nosy, blunt girl darted out of the room. Lex felt somewhat proud that even in his ridiculous condition he could scare a little girl.
“Honey!” Martha came in from the kitchen and knelt beside the couch. “Would it be okay if I took a look at you? I was going to take care of this earlier, but I thought you could use all the rest you can get.”
“Yeah, sure,” Lex said in a tight voice.
She lifted the blanket and then his shirt. “I’ve… really only done this with cows…”
”That’s flattering,” Lex said dryly. When she looked at him, he smiled a little to reassure her that he wasn’t upset.
Martha gently pressed her fingers along the rise of his stomach. Lex flinched hard when the surface of his skin twitched.
“Oh! The baby kicked.” She smiled then creased her brows at Lex’s bulging eyes. Martha reached into her pocket for something. It was a fetal stethoscope. “I use it for the animals. I’d like to listen, if you don’t mind.”
Lex frowned at her, but nodded. This ‘process’ was going to continue whether he agreed to it or not. The cold metal of the stethoscope pressed against his skin. He closed his eyes again and tried to distance himself from what was happening.
“Here,” she said. Lex opened his eyes. She put the tips of the stethoscope into his ears.
Lex started to protest then froze when he heard the quick heartbeat. He leaned forward slightly and listened with interest. A protective smile spread across his face.
He looked up to see Martha, and now Clark behind her, watching him anxiously.
“Hey…” Clark said softly. Lex reached out for him and offered him the tips of the stethoscope. The young man knelt next to him and took them hesitantly.
“I’m going to finish up in the kitchen, okay?” Martha stood and left them together.
“Listen, Clark,” Lex whispered. He slipped the waistband of his sweatpants down and held the end piece to his belly. Lex watched Clark’s eyes widen and his rosy lips form into a small, cute “O.”
“Wow.”
Lex felt movement again and put his fingertips to his skin, frowning pensively. He was starting to think that maybe he could do this. Maybe he could fit a child into his life. He had always wanted children, but the thought scared him so much.
“Okay, I’ve whipped us up a feast. We can have something to eat here to celebrate the New Year.” Martha came in wiping her hands and smiled sympathetically at the two boys.
As hungry as he was, Lex felt nervous about the amount of food on the table. It was just going to mean that the fetus would grow faster. Martha put a hand on his shoulder and encouraged him to take a seat.
“I got a lot of supplies at the store… mostly, like diapers and formula,” Chloe chattered, sitting next to Clark. Lex wondered what her motivation for being here was and if he would be on the Wall of Weird before school was back in session. “I hope we have everything we need.”
“It’ll be fine. I can go out for whatever we’re missing when things settle down,” Martha said, heaping food on Lex’s plate. “Don’t be shy, hon.”
Lex found himself pushing down his waistband before they were halfway through with the meal, and everyone was careful not to stare at him, although he knew he was eating quite a lot. Martha had made a good deal of food in the short time she’d had to prepare, and it looked like between him and Clark, it would all be gone.
No wonder I’m so hungry, if the fetus is half of him! Lex thought, leaning back in his chair and massaging his full belly. He was trying to relax, but at the same time he was bracing himself. He’d have another growth spurt soon, and those were draining and unpleasant.
Clark helped him up and began to take him upstairs. Lex had never been in the guestroom before, but apparently Jonathan had cleared it out for him. There was still a bit of junk piled in the closet. Lex looked around a moment and then felt his stomach expanding. He faltered and fell, but Clark caught him, swept him up into his arms and set him on the bed.
“How can you carry me like it’s nothing?” Lex asked, trying to get comfortable as his belly began to stretch Clark’s white shirt tight. He was afraid that it was about to rip in half. Clark was so damn fit. “Ugh.”
“Sorry.”
“Help me get this off before it strangles me.” Lex began to struggle out of Clark’s ruined shirt. Together they pulled it over his head, and Lex leaned back onto the bed, watching his belly grow. “God, this is surreal.”
Clark sat silently, biting his lip. Lex looked up at him and grabbed his hand firmly. “What?”
“I never meant to do this to you. I promise,” Clark said earnestly.
“I never thought you did, I ahhh….” Lex took a deep breath. “You’ve got to stop apologizing. I… don’t know what’s going on here, but I want you to be with me. If not as a father, as my friend. I could use one.”
“I’m not going anywhere!” Clark squeezed his hand back sincerely. Lex gave him a tremulous smile.
“Oh… oh, I think it’s stopped.” Lex looked down. The symbols crowned on top of his protruding belly. Lex sighed. “How much longer is this going to take?”
“You’re pretty impatient. Most women have to wait nine months,” Clark joked. He removed his smile immediately and looked a little guilty for making the joke at Lex’s expense. Lex reached down and jostled his baby belly in his hands.
“You know us Luthors. Always have the bottom line in mind.”
Clark grinned. Lex winced. That had been a questionably good idea. The enlarged fetus began kicking vigorously. Clark’s eyes bulged.
“Oh, wow, I can see the baby moving.” He reached out and touched the little ripples across Lex’s skin. “That’s so weird.”
Lex yawned. “I concur.”
“I should let you rest,” Clark whispered. Lex gave him a pleading look.
“Please don’t leave me.” He silently cursed himself. How pathetic he must look. “I… unless you have something to take care of. I’ll probably just fall asleep anyway.”
Clark took off his shoes and curled up into the bed beside him.
“Your dad will shoot me if he catches us like this.”
“He will not. You’re pregnant with his grandchild.”
Oh, well. He had a point. Lex shifted his bulk and rested his head on Clark’s chest. He closed his eyes and could feel Clark’s hands rubbing over him. A finger traced over the symbols.
“More of these, huh?”
“Still don’t know what they mean.”
“I’ll write them down later. Maybe one of the Kawatchi elders will know.”
“Mm hm.” Lex started to ask Clark what he thought about names, but he was too sleepy to formulate the question properly and just melted into Clark’s warmth. He woke briefly when Jonathan came in and spoke to Clark about something.
“I should tell him, Dad. I think he needs to know.”
“We can talk about this later, Clark.”
“We don’t have that much time!”
“Later, Clark. Why don’t you come help me with the crib?”
“I told you I’m not leaving Lex.”
Lex lifted his head a little, “I’ll be okay.“
“Are you awake already? You haven’t been asleep that long.” Clark looked down at Lex with a little frown. “You feel okay? The baby?”
Lex realized a long blue shirt had been put on him at some point. He must have been sleeping hard. “I feel fine.”
He rested his head back down on Clark’s shoulder. Clark smiled. “Then sleep some more.”
“’Kay.”
He caught the uneasy look on Jonathan’s face before he closed his eyes again. It might have been because Clark’s arms were around him and his hand was fairly close to his ass.
When he woke again, there were party favors going off downstairs, and Lex had a powerful need to piss. He held his belly with one hand and made for the bathroom with a slow, determined gate.
“Oh! Hey, Lex.”
Lex turned his head to see Chloe looking up at him.
“Do you want me to get Clark?”
“I can use the bathroom on my own, thanks.”
She looked down. “Oh…. Okay. Um…”
He put his hand on her shoulder. “Really. Hold that thought.”
Lex could swear he heard a little giggle as he waddled as quickly as he could towards the bathroom.
When he came out, Chloe was leaning against the wall. “Better?”
“Much.” He rested a hand on the top of his belly where the fetus was squirming about. His back was really starting to ache from lugging his front around. “What did you want to say?”
She shook her head quickly. “It’s not important.”
“I’m sure you’ve been somewhat briefed on how this happened. I’m wondering if… We’ll be on the Wall of Weird anytime soon.”
“No! No, I wouldn’t do that to a friend. Documentation is all up here.” She tapped her temple. “Clark, uh…”
Lex shifted his weight. “And what about Clark?”
“I uh… I know this sounds pretty bizarro coming from me, but I just… I wanted to say that I’m happy for you guys. And I want to help with… this uh sitch however I can.”
Lex pursed his lips. “Clark and I aren’t exactly looking at happily ever after here. He’s underaged and still in high school. I’m about to pop a baby, and we’re unmarried. Not to mention I have a girlfriend who I’m going to have to break up with and a father who is less likely to approve than Clark’s.”
“But…” Chloe hugged her arms and looked downward. “He really cares about you. I’ve watched him, and I think… you two are going to be okay. He’s probably a little freaked now, but… with the way he feels about you, I don’t think anyone else really stands a chance.”
”Like you?”
“I can cope, if Clark isn’t into me because he likes you. It’s better than losing him because of Lana. Because then I think I lose both of them. Besides, I think you two match better.”
Lex smiled slightly. “So I have your approval?”
“Just don’t hurt him. Or you’re going to have to answer to me.” Her eyes flitted up, then down again. Lex grinned appreciatively at her posture and the attempt at a threatening tone. How often did Clark have someone trying to protect him?
“I would do everything in my power not to hurt him, Chloe.” Lex blew some air out slowly and rubbed where the baby was kicking. It was getting a little hard to breathe.
“Yeah, I know. But… okay, do you want to go see Clark? Can you make it down the stairs?”
“I think I might be able to make it,” Lex said with amusement. He followed her down and her eyes kept flitting back at him, watching him as he took his careful steps and leaned on the railing. He caught Clark’s eye as he came down. The young man smiled widely and dashed over to his side.
“Nice nap?”
“One of the better ones I’ve had.” Lex let Clark steady him the rest of the way down the stairs. Chloe looked back and smirked at him. He let Clark lead him over to the sofa where he submitted to another short ‘exam’ from Martha.
“I don’t think you’ll need much more time, Lex. If this were a normal pregnancy, I’d guess you were starting your eighth month. I mean, without a sonogram, I can’t tell, but I think so. Does it hurt anywhere?”
Lex shook his head. She pulled the long shirt down and reached down suddenly to give him a hug. Lex flushed slightly at the attention.
“Sorry. I’m just… a little worried about you. Your doctor hasn’t called back, and we’re getting close here.” She looked up, pulled back, and took his hands. “Are you hungry?”
Lex raised his brows and sighed. Jonathan stepped over and rubbed his shoulder.
“Don’t be nervous, son. We’re gonna be right there when the baby comes.”
“I don’t suppose I have much of a choice,” Lex said, trying and failing to keep his voice steady.
Martha pointed over to the couch. “Just relax, hon. I’m not quite done cooking yet.”
Lex rubbed his temple. This whole experience was patently humiliating. Clark slipped his arm around Lex’s back.
“I’ll be in the other room fixin’ up the nursery,” Jonathan told them. “Holler if you need anything.”
Lex leaned back into Clark’s arms breathing deeply and wondering if he wasn’t going a little insane. He felt as though everything was happening in slow motion around him while his body stretched and changed beyond his control. He tried to think of that little heartbeat, focus on that precious result and not what was happening to him, because the panic was creeping up his neck and he couldn’t stop it.
“Lex?”
He turned his head to look at Clark curiously. There was something strange in his voice.
“I need to show you something.”
Chloe frowned. “What’s so pressing?”
Clark scowled at her. “Okay, my parents don’t want me to, but I’m going to tell both of you, just… Chloe, it’s gonna have to wait until after the baby is born for you. I need to take Lex out now. Can you cover for us?”
Lex could see curiosity, frustration, and confusion pass across her face before she spoke. “Okay. I’ll tell them Lex was having cramps, and you took him for a walk?”
“That’s not too far from the truth,” Lex muttered, rubbing his belly. Clark grinned widely at her and helped Lex up again. “Where are we going?”
“Just trust me?”
Lex looked back to Chloe, who was a bundle of nervous energy, wanting so much to follow them. His center of gravity was so off that it was difficult to walk more than a few feet without Clark’s steadying hands.
“The storm cellar?”
“I should have shown you before, but… I was always scared of how you’d react. I’m scared now, to be honest,” Clark admitted. His arms were firmly around Lex as they descended into the cellar.
“It’s okay. Can’t be weirder than anything I’ve seen so far.”
“I uh… dunno.” Clark led Lex over to a stool and urged him to sit. “I don’t want you to fall when you see this, but I think it’s only right that I do, y’know.”
Lex steadied himself on the stool and looked on with interest. He rubbed circles over his belly. The baby was excited, too. Had become more and more excited the closer they came to whatever Clark had to show him.
“Okay, brace yourself,” Clark warned.
Lex rolled his eyes. “I’m ready already. Sometime before my water breaks?”
Clark walked determinedly over to a large dark shape and pulled off the tarp covering it.
Lex almost fell off the stool. “What the fuck is that?”
“It’s a spaceship. The one I came here in.”
Lex tried to take a breath, as the child inside him kicked one of his organs. “I’m sorry. What?”
Clark slipped his hands into his back pockets and walked back over to Lex with a skittish expression. “My spaceship. It came with the meteor shower.”
Lex blinked in dumb silence. He could feel his heart pounding at a ridiculous rate. It looked exactly like what Clark had said it was. A spaceship. From space. Which meant that Clark was… had always been… not a mutant… and Lex’s baby…
“Say something, Lex?” Clark pleaded. Lex just sat there, wide-eyed and clutching the curve of his belly. “I had to tell you. I wanted to, so many times, but my parents-“
“Are you screwing with me?” Lex asked finally, his voice raising an octave. “Is this a joke? It isn’t funny.”
“No, Lex-“
When the ship lifted up and began to glow, Clark almost fell over himself. Lex rose from the stool and started to back away. Clark ran to his side as Lex began to fall.
“What the fuck?” Lex felt himself beginning to shiver uncontrollably. Funny, since he didn’t feel cold. “Did… god, did you do this on purpose?”
“What?”
“Did you get me pregnant on purpose?!” Lex tried to struggle out of Clark’s arms, but he felt too weak. Pushing against Clark was like trying to move a wall of solid rock. “Is this some kind of alien instinct? I’m a fucking vessel for your breeding program?”
“No! I was just as surprised as you! I don’t know what happened; please believe me, Lex. I’d never hurt you on purpose.” He tried to get Lex to look at him but Lex kept wresting his face away. “Please, please, just…”
“I can’t think,” Lex whispered. Then he winced hard. A cramp arched across the front of his belly, and he clung to Clark’s arms instead of trying to push him away. “I… I don’t know. Fuck.”
“You… you knew a little bit though, right?” Clark cuddled Lex to him with one hand and stroked his scalp with another.
“I thought you… been affected by the meteors… like me…” Lex gritted his teeth. Clark wiped his sleeve against his face, and Lex realized that he was crying. He was a Luthor. Luthors never cried. Except that he was, a lot, and there were pains ripping up his back as he leaned his face into Clark’s shoulder, soaking it with his ragged sobs.
“I’m sorry. I…” Clark shut his mouth and held Lex tightly, rocking him a little and kissing his forehead. “Do you need a sweater? I should have thought of that. I don’t get cold.”
Clark paused, but since Lex wouldn’t let him go he couldn’t dash back into the house for a jacket or a blanket. “I need you to understand I didn’t mean for this to happen. Please forgive me.”
Lex said nothing and continued to cry uncontrollably against Clark’s shoulder. He pressed his head to Lex’s and waited for Lex to catch his breath. Then Lex made a small groan, and Clark shot up straight. “What? What is it, Lex?’
“I…. Unnn…”
Clark quickly slipped his arms under Lex and began to lift. “Can you stand?”
Lex moved a hand under his belly and made a hissing sound. Clark gave him another kiss on the head and swept him up into his arms. Before Lex could blink, they were somehow back in the farmhouse. Chloe stood from the couch with a dumbstruck expression. Lex tried to collect his wits, but found himself failing and just pressed his forehead further into Clark’s chest.
“What did you do, Clark?” Chloe asked.
“We need to call his doctor.” Clark’s voice had deepened and sounded protective and urgent.
“I called again, but Toby isn’t answering.”
“He’s probably high,” Lex muttered. “Forgot he was supposed to come.”
“Lex?”
He lifted his face to look at Clark. The boy’s eyes were watery and scared. This was so unfair. He was the one about to go through labor without any happy painkillers. He should be the one falling apart.
“We…” Lex struggled to take a breath. “We’re… okay. Just… get me upstairs… if… nothing else… unnn.”
Clark’s grip on him tightened. Lex felt a warm wetness between his legs. Motherfucker.
“If it doesn’t go well, cut me open. I’ll… heal. It’s… my ability.” Lex tried to fill his expression with meaning, so that Clark would understand. The boy’s face crumbled, and he nodded, heading up the stairs back to the guestroom.
The baby was thankfully coming quickly. Lex strained in Clark’s arms as Martha pulled out the sterilized equipment she used on cows and tried to coach him through the pain. Shooting up his back, ripping him apart, sweat stinging his eyes. He kept trying to catch his breath.
Then as things were becoming too hazy, Martha took his hand and pulled it down between his legs. It was wet and slimy, but he could feel soft strands of hair…
His baby. He clenched his teeth and pushed, as Clark pressed his head against Lex’s and held his hand firmly.
He heard the wail just before he passed out.
***
Oddly, when he woke, his head was pounding. It was the first sensation that he noticed. His vision was still bleary, and when he tried to sit up he almost fell back down. He felt as though he’d been impaled. He ran a hand down his stomach then pulled up the pajamas he was wearing. The symbols were still there, though his stomach was drastically deflated, and his chest tightened in worry.
Lex found to his surprise that when he opened his mouth to call for Clark, his voice was raw. Had he been screaming? Lex cringed at the thought. He was never letting that sexy farmboy touch him again. Perhaps castration was in order. It wasn’t like he could stop Clark if the mating instinct struck him again. In the priority of things, however, Lex decided he had to get up and find his baby first.
Getting out of bed was a struggle, and a painful one. It took him a few minutes of slow inching out of the covers before he made it to the edge of the bed, then he somehow managed to prop himself onto his feet. He made toward the door with a slow shuffle.
There wasn’t much going on in his mind. It was as though the pounding in his head had chased away any thoughts other than those of finding and holding his baby. He tried to move faster down the hallway, but it was nearly impossible. He was straining and panting as it was. When he felt himself lose his balance, Lex decided he was just going to have to crawl, then wondered why he hadn’t considered this method to begin with, since it was faster.
“Hey!” Clark called from the head of the stairs. He ran over to Lex’s side. “You okay? What are you doing out of bed?”
“Where is it? He… she… whatever. Where?” he whispered forcefully.
“Hang on, Lex. I’ll take you in there. I told Dad we should have left her in your room. Mom and Dad wanted you to be able to rest, though.”
Lex cracked a smile. “A girl?”
“Yeah.” Clark beamed and helped Lex to his feet. They headed towards Clark’s room. Lex leaned over the handcrafted crib and stared at the little creature in awe. “Look at her hair! She’s a little redhead.”
“Oh…” Lex reached down to the sleeping infant and touched her little curled fist. “Oh, Clark… we made that?”
“Heh. Yeah.” Clark rested his chin on Lex’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around his waist. “So… do you forgive me?”
“I guess I have to…” Lex stroked her cheek with one finger. Martha had dressed her in a tiny purple onesie. “I…”
Lex looked up at him, still putting most of his weight on the crib and hoping it would take it. “Clark, I’m really okay with this. About the ship. You just shocked me…”
“Yeah, I got that when you held onto me instead of pulling away.” Clark smiled. He reached over tentatively and cupped Lex’s face. “I really… Maybe it was bad for you. I had to tell you, though. I love you. Maybe that’s why this happened? Maybe it was some sort of alien instinct thing-“
“I don’t know. But…” Lex looked down at his daughter again. “It gave us her.”
“I don’t want to put you through that again, though. If I can help it.”
“I look like hell, don’t I?” Lex felt Clark’s hands move on his hips.
“You’re really skinny. And pale. You lost a lot of blood.”
Lex put his hands over Clark’s. “Well, we can figure this out. If you’ll let me.”
“Whatever it takes to protect you.”
“And her,” Lex said seriously. He felt warm inside, now that Clark seemed to be thinking beyond the moment of what had just happened. “I need to keep her safe, Clark.”
Clark nodded. The little baby began to wiggle and made a whining sound. Lex reached down and picked her up, gently. He figured this was a skill you didn’t really forget.
”Hey, baby. Oh, we never talked about names.”
“We never got to give you a baby shower, either.” Clark grinned.
Lex rolled his eyes at him and bounced the baby in his arms a little. “She’s hungry. Shut the door.”
Clark frowned, but did as he was asked, then turned to see Lex unbuttoning his shirt.
“The indignity never ends,” he muttered, holding their little girl up to his chest. It was a little puffy, but he really hadn’t developed breasts. Regardless, the baby latched on quickly and began to suckle.
“Wow.” Clark came over to Lex and helped him ease into a sitting position on the bed.
“Yeah. You think it felt weird when she moved inside me? She’s sucking on my nipple. In an entirely un-sexual way. Freaky.”
Clark laughed. “I don’t think… it’s undignified. I think it’s kind of amazing.”
He ran a gentle hand over the soft fuzz on the baby girl’s head. She suckled away, ignoring everything around her.
“No question she’s yours,” Lex commented.
“I love her hair.”
“She can have it. I looked pretty dorky as a redhead.”
“Lex, um…”
Lex frowned and felt his face grow warm.
“Just… roll with it, Clark. Alien instinct… or something was controlling you… or you were possessed… or under the influence…” Lex looked up at him. “Maybe it was just this. Just us. Would that be okay?”
“I’d want it to be different. I’d want it…”
”To be slow. Special?”
“Yeah.”
“Later. Later it can be. When we know more. When we get this worked out for our little girl.” Lex gazed into Clark’s guilty green eyes. He met the boy’s lips hesitantly, exploring, testing. “This girl is going to eat me alive.”
“Aw. No, she won’t.”
So there Lex was, cuddled in Clark’s warm arms, welcomed into the Kent family, with a million complications to deal with, but with more support than he had ever had to face them with. All thanks to his little alien progeny.
